Ever dreamt of cantering through the African bush on horseback in search of amazing wildlife? Are you looking for hands on experience in the South African equine industry? Open to experienced or novice riders, you’ll be waking up in Big 5 territory every day, as well as going on horse trails and bush walks in a Big 4 (without elephants) areas! The Equestrian Work Experience exposes you to all the aspects of managing an equestrian centre and includes both practical and theoretical content. Volunteers however will not be expected to maintain the centre, so if mucking our stables is not your thing, then don’t despair. Rather, emphasis is placed on learning in a relaxed and fun filled environment, and is available to both experienced and novice riders alike. If you have basic horse riding skills and would like to learn more, African Dream Horse Safaris is the place to visit.
This amazing equine adventure is designed for individuals to join groups of up to eight students interested in learning more about a South African equestrian centre and its daily operations. This includes all aspects such as understanding the correct way to ride, handling of horses, general horse care, basic yard and equipment, safety, instruction, schooling, basic veterinary, riding skills both in the bush and in an arena, horse behaviour, natural horsemanship and horse trails in combination with a unique nature experience, with an emphasis on conservation, basic knowledge of ecosystems, identification, tracks and signs, animal behaviour and so much more.
If walking along a game path through the African bush, sitting around a campfire in the evenings listening to the calls of the wild whilst watching the African sunset appeals to you, then this is the Equestrian Work Experience for you. So whether you are looking for an amazing way to spend your gap year, career break or whether you simply want to improve your equestrian skills and to learn more about conservation in a natural African environment, this Yomps Equestrian Work Experience programme is for you.
