Have a Summer to Remember!
Oyster Worldwide
This vacancy is no longer live on Season Workers, here are some similar vacancies to this one that are currently live:
Our Summer To Remember placements have been set up for those people who feel that they cannot commit to a full Gap Year for any reason. We are offering short term placements (that give long term positive impact) in two of our most popular destinations - Nepal and Tanzania.
These placements both last for 5 weeks and come with an option to extend at the end. The idea is that you will get to see and experience a lot more of what the countries have to offer than if you were just going there as a tourist. For the first week you will be settling in and doing activities, for the next four weeks you will be working with a local Community Project that desperately needs help.
In Nepal you will go on a Himalayan Trek for 3 days and 2 nights in the Langtang Valley in your first week before beginning your Community work with a Women's organisation. We have a variety of worthwhile projects that need volunteers to spend some time helping them out. These projects are based in the villages surrounding Kathmandu. You will be living either with a local family or in project accommodation/guest house – your exact accommodation will depend on which project you will work with. The experience that you will have will give you a further insight into the life of people in Nepal and will be a great personal adventure. You could be teaching English at local schools, working in an orphanage, community work in a Woman’s shelter or a manual labourer working on a farm. You will be volunteering Monday to Friday and have the weekends off for free time. Most volunteers choose to meet up in Kathmandu for a relaxing weekend.
At the end of your 4 weeks and having completed your voluntary work you will be prepared for a rafting trip down the Trisuli river - one of the most popular rivers for white water rafting for beginners and advanced alike. You will have some of the most spectacular views you are ever likely to see and have a thrilling experience of a lifetime. You will camp overnight by the river with camping staff who will provide your food.
You will spend 2 days rafting before heading to Chitwan National Park for a fantastic 2 day safari. The Chitwan National Park is an expanse of nearly 900 sq. km and boasts some of the finest varieties of flora and fauna in the world. You can expect to see Asian one-horned rhinoceros, Bengali tigers, monkeys and elephants all living in their natural habitats. You will have the opportunity to do an elephant trek including elephant bathing. You will stay overnight in a comfortable lodge where all food is provided.
Optional tour of Tibet- if you have the time and wish to extend your stay in Nepal to 6 1/2 weeks we can offer you the chance of a lifetime to experience 10 days in Tibet – ‘the roof of the world’. The average height of the region is 4,000 metres (16,500ft) above sea level. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience the culture and learn about the Buddhist religion in one of the most remote parts of the world. Additional costs approximately £500.
If East Africa is for you then you can have a Summer To Remember in Tanzania. On arrival (and after some rest!) you will our representative will show you around the town you will be calling home over the summer. You can relax and spend the first evening socialising with your group. The next day you will begin your 4 day, 3 night safari in The Serengeti, Lake Manyara and The Ngoro Ngoro Crater. These are some of the best national parks Africa has to offer where you can see the big 5 (Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant and Cape Buffalo) as well as much, much more. At the end of your trip you will move into your placement accommodation ready to start your project.
The 4 week project will allow you to do something really valued whilst embarking on a personal adventure of your own. We have a variety of options available for your voluntary work from working in an orphanage, helping out on an AIDS Awareness program to gaining experience as a journalist with the local Arusha newspaper.
Optional 6th Week - If you have the option to stay for a further week at the end of your placement you can either make independent travel plans or come on an Oyster organised trip to climb Kilimanjaro. The climb takes 5 to 6 days and will leave you with stunning memories of Africa. At an extra £550 this trip is excellent value and includes food, compulsory porters and park fees.Your flight is an extra cost - we can arrange this for you but you should allow approximately £700 for the flight.
Food is included during your Community work placement in Nepal. In Tanzania you will be living in self catering accomodation. Food is very cheap and you can easily live on £15 per week. NB: on some of the trips in Nepal food may not be included - we can give you further information on this.
