South African Conservation and Game Reserve Management Volunteering

Yomps

Volunteer on a South African game reserve for 4, 8 or 12 weeks; help to monitor animals such as lions, leopards, elephants and rhino, drive 4x4’s, learn about conservation in South Africa, obtain the skills required to maintain a game reserve, obtain a first aid certification; learn some of the Afrikaans language and contribute towards the future sustainability of a unique and beautiful area.

This South African volunteering project gives you the unique opportunity to live in the heart of the South African bush, learning about conservation and helping to manage and maintain a game reserve. You will be based in the province of Limpopo in South Africa on a 24,700 hectare reserve which is the home to many animals including rhinos, elephants, lions, leopards, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest (to name but a few). As well as seeing spectacular scenery and breathtaking flora and fauna, on this South African conservation volunteering adventure you will learn all the skills required to manage a game reserve; so you can aid the future sustainability of a remarkably unique and beautiful area whist you gain some excellent experience for your CV and fascinating knowledge about conservation. Whether you are looking for an amazing way to spend your gap year, an awe-inspiring way to spend a holiday or just the chance to volunteer and help one of the most remarkable parts of the world; this 4 to 12 week South African conservation volunteering adventure will certainly provide you with the experiences of a lifetime!

You will spend the first week being taught about conservation, flora and fauna, and the variety of skills you will need over the coming weeks. This will include learning how to drive 4x4s, monitor animals, control soil erosion, bush clear, fence patrol, take vegetation surveys, and much more. In the opening week you will also be taught the Emergency First Response first aid course, to receive a qualification that will last two years. From the second week you will then be actively involved in helping to look after the reserve, whilst you continue to learn about real conservation and how to manage animals, the bush and the boundary fences, in order to keep the environment in harmony. Each day you will spend between six and eight hours working on the reserve and helping the conservation of the precious place that is home to awe-inspiring flora and fauna - having the experiences of a lifetime as you do!
