Our gap year experiences are much more than just working in these three very special countries - we want you to live there too!!! In each location we have our own accommodation, transport and full-time back-up staff so you can be sure you'll make the most of your time away. Our gap year projects are long-running and we are committed to making them sustainable - in short, your work will be valued and needed by local people.
You do not need to be a qualified or experienced teacher, you need only to have good motivation and a genuine interest and love for the experience of helping these children, and a desire to experience their style of life.
KENYA/TANZANIA:
‘Teach For Life’
Teach in one of the many schools we work with throughout Kenya! Working with our charity Moving Mountains, your efforts will shape many young children for the rest of their lives. All of the schools we work with offer differing set-ups, placements could be schools in Western Kenya close to Lake Victoria, too working in slum schools in Nairobi. We will have a chat to see which one will suit you best and where your skills can be best utilised.
· Work in a primary school supported by Moving Mountains
· Give private tuition to children directly sponsored by Moving Mountains
· Teach Children, English, maths, science, geography, history……
· Live locally and independently in your own house, as a local
· Train with the Black Cats, our successful football team
· Help us monitor the schools we support by carrying surveys on academic performance and quality of life

NEPAL:
‘Teaching in Kathmandu’
8 weeks Teaching, or 10 weeks with Optional Trek to Mt Everest
Moving Mountains and Adventure Alternative have been supporting and working with many projects in Nepal over the last decade. This Gap or sabbatical in Nepal concentrates within the educational field and in particular a school which we support and place children which the charity sponsors. It also introduces you to an organisation called SETU, which again is supported by Moving Mountains. SETU rehabilitates mothers once they have served time, often wrongly, in one of Nepal’s prisons. This is an emotional and very rewarding trip.
· Teach English, computer skills, basic science and core subjects to primary school children in the boarding school where Moving Mountains sponsors children
· Live locally and independently in a house in Kathmandu with plenty of staff and support
· Visit temples and places of significant interest at the weekends or go hiking in the Kathmandu Valley
· Get involved with SETU at the weekend
· Optional trek to Base Camp of Mount Everest (2 weeks in total)
Nepal Dates/price:
Teach Only: £1,450 excl. flights, insurance, visa, personal costs such as email, laundry etc.
Teach & Trek: £1,950 excl. flights, insurance, visa, personal costs such as email, laundry etc.
Departures: April/May and September / October for Mountain Gaps and all year round for Teaching without trek.
All of our Gap programs give you independence but also a strong network of support from our many staff. You have your own house to call home and a fantastic team of people to help you settle into your new role. Our team comprises Headmasters, mechanics, construction managers, counsellors, medical staff and local leaders / chiefs.
