Volunteer work teaching children in rural Nicaragua

A unique opportunity to work short-term with rural communities near Estelí, 150kms North of Managua, in the midst of the Segovia Mountains. Surrounded by mountains, valleys and waterfalls, this old Sandinista stronghold allows volunteers to learn or improve their Spanish, while travelling to nearby rural areas for their project work.
Assist children and adults who otherwise may not have the opportunity of any formal education or who need reinforcement. All transport to and from the communities is included, as well as a US$100 donation, the use of which is decided upon by each individual volunteer, and a one-year scholarship for a child. Spanish lessons and several trips and activities are also included in the programme, including a weekend trip to the Miraflor Natural Reserve, a day’s hike to the Salto de la Estanzuela waterfall and horse-riding. Activities also include lectures on local history and visits to local museums and points of interest in Estelí.

Highlights
First night of hotel accommodation in Managua, transport to and from Estelí, 15 hours of internet time, food and accommodation with a local family,40 hours of one-on-one Spanish classes, scholarship for a child to attend school for a year, and US $100 donation to the project are also included in the price.
