Work with Orangutans in Sumatra
Global Vision International
This vacancy is no longer live on Season Workers, here are some similar vacancies to this one that are currently live:
Join a unique and fascinating project investigating the way that orangutans in the Sumatran jungle self-medicate in order to treat illness and combat parasites. Global Vision International is looking for volunteers to join these 17-day teams. You will enter data, weigh samples, press plant specimens, and perform other varied research tasks. You will also go on a jungle trek to observe and record the behaviour of wild orangutans.
The site of the project is absolutely beautiful. Surrounded by rainforest, it is the perfect place to spot macaques, Thomas leaf monkeys and orangutans climbing in the trees. Participants will need to be prepared for basic living conditions and long days. With patience and flexibility, you should have the time of your life, while contributing to this crucial and long term research.
Highlights
Volunteers on every team will receive instruction and information on the following matters: project role and orientation, safety in tropical countries, potential health risks and precautions, Indonesian culture and appropriate behaviour in Sumatra. You will also learn sample collecting techniques and data entry protocols. This is a unique opportunity to learn about and study the local flora and fauna, especially orangutans.
