Conservation with Sea Turtles in Costa Rica

Our conservation projects give you the chance to 'get your hands dirty' while helping to protect and preserve some of the world's most beautiful habitats and wildlife. Our conservation projects will find you working in exotic locations by coastlines and in rainforests.

Although it is highly illegal, leatherback turtles are often poached for their eggs and meat which are sold for large amounts of money. This problem is all too common on the east coast of Costa Rica and Panama, where the leatherback turtle has been targeted for many years.

You will work alongside a charitable trust that has bought over 200 acres of land on the Caribbean coast, spanning both Costa Rica and Panama. This land is home to some of the highest populated nesting beaches for leatherback turtles in Latin America.

Your role will be to make up teams that patrol the beach, making sure that the turtles remain untouched. Other duties will also included collecting nesting turtle eggs and preparing hatcheries, as well as general maintenance work such as beach cleaning.

Dependent on the turtles, volunteers may be working in both Costa Rica and Panama.
