Placement Details
Our Archaeology projects offer you the opportunity to get some quality , profession al work experience in a truly fascinating area. This project is based in both Romania and Peru and is suitable for absolutely anyone, regardless of qualifications. From the budding undergraduate, the PHD student looking to enhance their CV or simply someone looking to persue an amateur interest in this field, we have a placement that will suit you, your skills and your level of experience.
On Both of our archaeology projects we make sure to cover all the different areas within this diverse field. These include: History, geology, anthropology, art, surveying, engineering and architecture and many more!
In Romania there is a deeply rich past stretching back to Neolithic times. Here we are based in many different sites including those in: Braşov ,Alba-Iulia, Bordusani-Popina, Harsova and Cluj. We work hand in hand with UNESCO and a trust sponsored by the Prince of Wales to preserve a number of Saxon churches throughout the region. This project is open all year round though the main focus of the work you will be involved in will vary seasonally. In Spring the emphasis is on field archaeology- where new sites are evaluated, in Summer/Autumn-let the digging commence! And in Winter the focus is on experimental archaeology and recreation of ancient silex tools.
In Peru we are based in the heart of the Sacred Vallley. It is the perfect mix of archaeological digs combined with community projects and support in both Patabamaba and Sachsayhuaman Park. We work in close conjunction with the Instituto Nacional de Cultura (INC). During this project you will learn a great deal about the ancient civilisation of the Incas and explore areas far beyond the tourist track on our own organised treks and expeditions. There is also the fantastic opportunity of visiting the most famous site of all Machu Picchu, which is a definite must!
