Placement Details
Volunteer in Ghana for 9 to 25 weeks, and do something meaningful on your gap year abroad! Schools, orphanages, and hospitals throughout Ghana depend on the help of volunteers like you – so stray from the well-beaten tourist path and engage in volunteer work as you get acquainted with this friendly West African culture.
Living in Ghana
There’s no better way to learn about a culture than to live it every day, and that’s just what our programme in Ghana allows you to do. Living with a host family under typical local conditions (often without a constant supply of running water or electricity) and working with the local people, you will be immersed in authentic Ghanaian culture. At the beginning of your stay, our partners will help you prepare for life in Ghana, offering comprehensive information about Ghanaian customs, the local Twi language, health, money, safety, food, customs, travel, and your volunteer work, during a 4-day orientation in Accra. If you need any further help or support during your time in Ghana, our partner organisation will be happy to assist you.
Volunteering
Our numerous volunteer projects all over Ghana count on volunteers, so rest assured: your work here will be greatly appreciated! Possible fields of work include:
- child care (orphanages)
- education (pre-schools and schools)
- health (hospitals, rehabilitation centres, HIV/AIDS prevention)
- eco-tourism (wildlife management projects)
Before you depart for Ghana, you can select the type of work you would like to do, and our partners will do their best to place you in a project matching your interests. In the end, your placement will be based on your interests, your previous experience or qualifications, and the current project needs on location.
