Job Details

TravelBound is a specialist Tour Operator that deals with travel for predominately schools groups.  The Chateau du Molay is situated in the beautiful Normandy countryside and offers accommodation for up to 200 people in 40+ rooms as well as a number of meeting rooms, a library, a games room, a lounge area and bar.

This position is to ensure areas of the Chateau are maintained in good and safe working order.

RESPONSIBILITIES - COMMON DUTIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING

  • Simple carpentry. To make reasonable repairs to furniture and hotel fittings
  • Basic electrics. To test and repair fuses, to check all fittings, ensuring no live supply, before repairing or changing sockets, switches or light fittings.
  • Simple plumbing. To clean blocked wastes, toilets, basins etc by clearing traps, rodding or removing obstacles. Changing tap washers and repairing toilet mechanisms will also be required.
  • To carry out a daily tour of the Chateau, looking for possible areas that require attention.
  • Day to day repairs of any items as reported by clients or members of hotel staff.
  • To report any problems considered beyond your ability to the General Manager.
  • Run bottles and waste to the local refuse.
  • Any other duties as directed by your Manager
  • You will be required to provide your own tool kit, sufficient to carry out most normal tasks.
  • The Company will provide materials; fixings, electric drill or other specialist equipment is considered essential.

Working conditions:

Most duties will take place in and around the Chateau; you will work a six day week with a full day off per week. You will be expected to work 48 hours per week on average during the season. Due to operational needs one week you may work more than 48 hours but another week fewer hours. Your performance will be monitored throughout the season, through direct guest feedback (mainly through teacher/group leader questionnaires), and the General Manager will also give you formal and informal appraisals on a monthly basis.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF CHATEAU EMPLOYMENT ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation will be shared with your work colleagues.

UNIFORM

You will need to bring smart dark trousers or skirt and smart shoes in addition you will need some casual cloths for cleaning duties, etc. You will be supplied with a uniform for activities (Polo/T shirts) according to the job role.

FOOD

Breakfast, Lunch and an Evening meal with a drink will be provided on a daily basis, as a component that you subscribe to.

TRAVEL

Travel to and from resort will be provided.

INSURANCE

Full general insurance for personal belongings and medical expenses whilst travelling to and from the chateau and in Normandy during the season is provided. Please note if you participate in what are considered high risk sports e.g. horse-riding, wind-surfing etc. you will need to check if the policy covers you for these activities and if not arrange supplementary cover.

SALARY

Your salary is paid into your UK bank account on the 31st of each month. All salaries are subject to UK tax and national insurance.

HOLIDAY PAY

You will be entitled to holiday pay at the rate of 2 days per month pro-rata. This will be taken during the season as an extra half-day off per week.

ASSESSMENT PERIOD

The first month of employment at the Chateau will be used to assess your/our compatibility – a suitability interview will be conducted after this initial period.

TRAINING

Seasonal staff training will take place for a minimum of 5 days at the start of the season in the Chateau; it will cover all aspects of the job role and will allow for continual discussion regarding specifics of your job role. All staff will be cross-trained in other job areas to maximise the opportunities on offer within the company.

Additional Information

The Chateau is situated in an isolated location so we would advise that you take Laptops, books, CD’s, DVD’s, games etc. with you. The Chateau has a WiFi connection which is available free to all staff, as well as French satellite TV located in the staff accommodation, and English Sky TV in the main Chateau public lounge. Persons over 21 with a full driving licence, the company car may be driven.
