You are going to be doing the majority of your dive training in the magnificent environs on the tropical Caribbean island of Cozumel. Renowned the world over for its incredible dive sites, Cozumel is without doubt one of the planets greatest dive locations. Cozumel in Mayan, means “Land of the Swallows”. Cozumel is Mexico’s largest island and located just 20 kilometres off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsular. Cozumel measures 45 kilometres long and 16 kilometres wide. The climate is sub-tropical and the people native to Cozumel are of Mayan descent. Cozumel itself was a sleepy little fishing community until 1961, when a Frenchman, one Jacques Cousteau, declared Cozumel one of the most beautiful scuba diving areas of the world. Since then Cozumel has become an underwater marine park and many efforts are underway to preserve the delicate balance of dazzling coral reefs and the abundant variety of tropical fish that call them home. A renowned feature of Cozumel diving is the water clarity and depending on the season and weather divers can enjoy 30 – 60 metre visibility.
