Up to a thousand new jobs could be created in the North Wales outdoor activity sector in Wales over the next five years. The Tourism body of North Wales using partially European Development funding aims to develop the infrastructure of outdoor sports in the region.
Part of the plan is a sailing academy in Pwllheli. The outdoor sector in Wales currently employs around 5,000 people. The plan incorporates the promotion of sports such as mountaineering, mountain biking, sailing and kayaking. Jobs include sports instructors through to management.
Dewi Davies (Regional strategy director of Tourism Partnership North Wales) said:
"The objective is to engage with more local people, while recognising that the sector will still draw some of its workforce from outside the area."
