Location : Showa village, in a rural area of Fukushima prefecture.The population is about 19,000. Work : This project is organised together with Choma-Club, a local Non Profit Oorganisation concerned with community development and youth empowerment. Showa village, like many areas in rural Japan, faces a serious problem of depopulation of young people to the cities. This group is trying to restore and reanimate the local area. Volunteers will help remove snow from around the houses of the elderly villagers of Showa-Mura. Over 50% of the local residents are over 65 and do not have enought strenght to do this themselves. Volunteers will be trained and will be working alongside local volunteers.
Accomodation : In a building. Sleeping bag required. Special requirements : The group will be made up of 1 Japanese and 2 international volunteers. Very good Japanese language is required (there will be phone interview).Language will be JAPANESE. Volunteers need to be physically fit.
