Cost: £150 registration fee + £30 Preparation weekend fee. Volunteers fund their own travel and insurance. Volunteers pay an on arrival fee of approx. £100 that covers board and accommodation and funds the programme in the country.

Volunteers needed in co-operative community in Japan

Travel terminal : From Tokyo, 4 hours by express train or 8-10 hours by bus and train Dates : 03/02/2010-10/03/2010  

Location : Very isolated, but beautiful village near “Japanese Northern Alps”. It is very cold in winter.

Work : The host organisation is Kyodo Gakusha Shintoku farm, a co-operative community where people from various backgrounds, sometimes with learning disabilities, come together to live and work. There are five communities in Tokyo, Nagano and Hokkaido and they farm and keep animals in a natural, organic way. Volunteers will help the members of the farm in the village of Maki by removing snow from around their houses and carrying fire wood. They will also look after the animals and (goats and chickens), do some house work and other every day tasks.  

Accomodation : In a shared room at the farm.  Special requirements : Volunteers should be able to speak Japanese fluently. Motivation letter in Japanese is necessary. Volunteers should expect long working hours (5:30 am to 18:00). Work can be physically demanding. Volunteer: 3 international volunteers, 5 Japanese volunteers.
