Longing to use your English skills for a good cause abroad? Want to work with elephants or gain more childcare experience working with Thai orphans? Dive into Thai culture and volunteer for 2 or more weeks in one of our varied programmes in Chiang Mai, Thailand! Get ready for a fascinating cultural exchange, no matter what sort of work you are doing. No previous experience or teaching qualifications are required.
Teaching English to Buddhist Monks
The city of Chiang Mai is full of temples where young boys are sent to become Buddhist monks, often because their parents have died or do not have enough money to care for them. The temple schools where these young monks study also lack money and are happy to welcome volunteers to teach English to their pupils. You have the unique opportunity to teach these young monks English, which is greatly increasing in importance for the Thai people.
Working with Elephants
Feed and care for elephants and offer English instruction on the side in this exciting project about one hour north of Chiang Mai by car. Tourists frequent this elephant camp in order to observe the pachyderms as they bathe themselves and “paint” abstract art (throwing paint against a canvas). Home to almost 70 elephants, the camp employs 200 workers, who are happy to receive English lessons from volunteers.
Caring for Thai Orphans
You have the chance to work in the largest orphanage in northern Thailand in your third option for volunteer work in Chiang Mai. The orphanage is home to children ranging from babies to 18-year-olds. You will have the chance to work mainly with young children up to age 5, playing with them, caring for them, and giving them plenty of attention.
Living in Thailand
Your stay in Thailand will include a 2-day orientation with a tour of Chiang Mai and cultural programme. Accommodation, which varies depending on your project, is included in the programme price. Wherever you choose to volunteer during your stay in Thailand, you are sure to gain fascinating insight into the Thai people and their way of life.
