Placement Details
Care for street children or orphans, help sick and injured animals in an animal shelter, or work in environmental projects, planting trees, cleaning beaches, or organising environmental protection campaigns – and to top it all off, learn Spanish! Choose between two incredible destinations: Playa Colorada in the coastal Mochima National Park or Mérida, a lively student town in the Andes Mountains.
Language Course
Before you volunteer, you will brush up on your Spanish in a 1 or 4-week intensive language course in Mérida or Playa Colorada. Whether you are a beginner in the Spanish language or have been learning it for years, you will find a language course to fit your skill level. Beginners in the Spanish language need to take part in the 8-week programme, including 4 weeks of Spanish lessons. All courses include 20 lessons each week.
Volunteering
After the first 1 or 4 weeks of the language course, you will dive into your volunteering project with an enhanced knowledge of the Spanish language. Now you will have the chance to improve your Spanish and your understanding of Venezuelan culture even further through 10 Spanish lessons a week, as you also work to help local people.
Your volunteer work in Venezuela could include:
- Supervising and teaching street children and orphans
- Building or renovating free-time and educational facilities for children, for example: classrooms or football fields
- Cleaning beaches and local recreation areas, planting trees, working in marine or animal protection projects, and organising environmental campaigns
- Caring for sick and injured animals in an animal shelter
Whatever form your voluntary engagement takes, your work will be greatly appreciated by the local people who you assist. In Playa Colorada, you will be accommodated with other volunteers in a beach lodge, for the duration of the language course and volunteer work. Volunteers in Mérida stay together in a posada in the centre of the city. Breakfast and supper are included in the total programme price. Throughout your programme, TravelWorks and our partner organisation in Venezuela will be there to offer you any help you may need.
