Who said finding work on your Australia gap year was dull?
Finding work on your Australia gap year need not be difficult. There are plenty of options available to you if you are looking for paid work abroad and want to take advantage of Australia´s working holiday visa scheme. The trick is to be clever about what kind of work you want to do.
You see it is very easy to end up temping or working in a bar in a backpackers in Sydney, and that is all well and good if you like that sort of thing, but it isn´t really different to being back home is it? After all is that not what gap years are all about? Doing something different?
Fortunately there is an alternative, and a pretty fine alternative too. Xtreme Gap Year, who specialise in Australia gap year travel, have a range of Australia gap year programmes that lead to paid work in Australia. These are not your run of the mill qualifications either, as you would expect from an adrenaline travel company, they are pretty exciting alternatives to the daily grind.
Take the Whitsunday sailing courses they offer for example. This is a 23 day course based on the great barrier reef marine park. During the course you train to crew as a boat crew member, getting to sail in one of the worlds most beautiful marine locations. At the end of the course you are then given a job crewing on the fleet of yachts sailing regularly round the Whitsundays. This pays up to 500 dollars a week. Not bad when you consider that it also takes care of 80% of your living costs too, as you live on the boats when you are out at sea (4 nights on one or two nights off) and that all your food is included. The course will pay for itself in no time.
Then we have the beach lifeguard qualification. Now this is not your average day job! Think David Hasselhoff with out the chest wig. That could be you! Ok, so unless you are German, you probably don´t get turned on at the though of that, but considering you do get to live and work on the beach, and get paid alot to do it, and it starts to look pretty interesting. (Up to 500 GBP a week).
If you are starting to think that actually these qualifications sound pretty appealing, you are correct. Work can be fun on your Australia Gap year. However we have saved the best for last. The Xtreme Gap Surf dude course is the mother of all Australia gap year jobs. Over a 3 month period, they will take you from a beginner to a surf instructor, enabling you to work in any of the 90+ surf schools in Australia. If you think hanging out by the beach checking out the latest talent rolling of the latest Oz experience bus could be fun, again, you are correct.
That is all well and good, but when you also consider the fun you can have during thre training... 3 months of living by the beach, surfing every day, hanging out with loads of backpackers (you train at one of the top backpacker surf academies) and you know you are onto a winner.|If that sounds cool, it is. Now when you also consider the actual course element, and that you are training with one of Australias top surf academies, as favourite on the back packer trail, you will notice that your social life is pretty good too.
