Chalet Val D’Abondance is a 12 bedroomed chalet just outside Chatel in the vast Portes du Soleil ski region where owners and guests holiday together in a friendly club like atmosphere.
The Chalet Host will report directly to the Chalet Manager in conjunction with the Management Committee (MC)
HOURS: 30 hours per week
MAIN PURPOSES OF THE JOB
To assist in and maintain a high standard of facilities at the Chalet in the areas of catering and cleaning services, health and safety and customer service levels.
The Chalet Host will be required to develop a partnership approach with the (MC) and owners, taking on responsibility for daily services at the Chalet as part of a team consisting of Chalet Manager, Chef plus Hosts (2 during the winter).
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Previous experience of similar chalet work preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and outgoing personality
- High standards of cleanliness, presentation and time keeping
- Working knowledge of French beneficial
- Valid UK driving licence
- Eligible to drive in France
- Certificate of Hygiene, Health and Safety
WORKING HOURS
Basic hours are expected to be approximately 7.45 – 10.00 a.m and 7.45 – 10.00 p.m. (or 5.30 where a children’s meal is being served) except changeover day on Sunday, which is a full working day with 2 hours off from (usually 1.00 – 3.00 p.m) These hours however may be subject to change according to the requirements of the chalet manager in line with the occupancy of the chalet. Weekly day off will normally be Wednesday night and Thursday morning but staff are required to be flexible and the staff day off will rotate when necessary.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Ensure Chalet is kept clean at all times, with all communal areas vacuumed, dusted, bins emptied, public washbasins and toilets thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis. Toilet sundries checked in staff and public toilets at least once daily.
- Clean rooms and bathrooms on changeover days, vacuum stairs and clean windows
- Change bed linen and towels on changeover days and all towels again on Tuesdays or Wednesdays as well as emptying waste bins.
- On a daily basis: check each bedroom’s shutters are closed and lights turned off and doors locked before leaving the chalet.
- Prepare, count and log laundry for weekly collection, and use washing machine for any additional washes required.
- Check in all laundry when returned
- Keep laundry room clean and tidy
- Remove rubbish and bottles & paper to bins/recycling plant
- Make up log fire daily in winter and bring in sufficient wood and kindling
- Lay tables for meals (breakfast and dinner for both adults & children)
- Serve meals, (including children’s dinner at 6.00 p.m. when required), clear up, wash dishes and clean kitchen, clean tables, vacuum if necessary
- Vacuum and mop dining and kitchen floor daily – both morning and evening
- Set out afternoon tea (following breakfast) and clear up
- Clean chalet at end of season and prepare for shut down of chalet. This includes preparing an inventory of bedding and kitchen equipment.
- Keep outside of chalet clean and presentable, including helping to keep the car park cleared of snow in winter and assisting with gardening in summer, preparing garden furniture etc.
- Help run the bar on an honesty basis
- Assist in daily transfer to slopes in winter and summer if required including transfers to and from Aigle train station, using the chalet minibus, which is otherwise for the sole use and convenience of Chalet members and their guests.
- Daily Health and Safety checks, make sure Health and Safety regulations are adhered to
- Be aware of fire evacuation procedures, and enforce
- Assist in dealing with guests enquiries, making sure you have a good local knowledge
- Be friendly at all times to guests
- Assist in other duties as required by MC and/or Chalet Manager
The postholder may be required to undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the key areas of responsibility of the post as detailed above.
REMUNERATION
- £120 net per week payable 4 weekly in arrears
- End of season performance related bonus £300

- Transfers to/from Geneva Airport at beginning and end of season
- Share in tips and bar profit at the end of the season
*These items will be reimbursed at the end of the season.
In addition to this, we offer 1 week at the owner’s rate for friends and family to stay at the Chalet, subject to availability.
Personal belongings insurance is not provided, and staff are recommended to take out their own insurance and an EHIC.
Winter 11/12 season dates:
Start: Period 1-11thDecember (tbc subject to requirement)
End: Period 14th– 21stApril (tbc subject to requirements)
