Head Chef required at our centre to ensure the catering provision for guests and staff meets and exceeds their expectations.
We're looking for an experienced Head Chef to join the team at Winmarleigh Hall’s children's adventure holiday centre in Lancashire.
PGL Travel Ltd is the UK's leading provider of residential activity holidays and study courses for young people. Our guests spend their days canoeing, climbing, quad-biking and orienteering, building up quite an appetite so our Head Chef role is crucial!
Winmarleigh Hall is a 19th century country house, set in 50 acres of gardens, parkland and woodland with a brand new, purpose-built lake.
You will assist the Catering Manager in managing the catering team on a daily basis in the provision of a high quality catering service for residential guests and staff. Located near Garstang in Lancashire, Winmarleigh Hall hosts 280 guests at the height of season with 70 staff working at the centre from January to November.
Supported by a team of Catering Assistants and Chefs, you will ensure that the catering team are producing nutritional, varied, balanced and tasty meals and will take charge of the food preparation.
As a key member of the centre's senior staff team, you will be responsible for food prep, kitchen hygiene and kitchen administration in accordance with all current catering legislation and company policies.
You will need to be available to undertake duty manager shifts on a rota basis with other senior staff. In addition, you will be responsible for the training, development and the day-to-day staff management of your team at varying stages of their catering career.
We’re looking for a team player who is able to interact well, has excellent communication skills and a keen customer focus. This is a hands-on Head Chef role, utilising your food preparation skills whilst working within a small team to ensure excellent customer service.
We offer the opportunity to work in a rewarding, supportive environment with qualification opportunities available, including an advanced apprenticeship and NVQs. Training will be provided, however a qualification in food preparation and cooking together with a Level 2 qualification in Food Hygiene would be desirable.
Hours of work are based on 42 hours over a 6 day working week of split shifts. The majority of our guests are under 17 so our catering team rarely find themselves working beyond 8pm.
This Head Chef vacancy is offered as a fixed-term contract from April through to November 30 2012. There is a possibility of this becoming a permanent position.
Working for PGL, you'll receive a competitive wage of £14,000 - £16,500 depending on experience and qualifications, plus uniform with accommodation and meals available at highly subsidised rates plus you'll have the chance to work in a unique environment.
