I’ve done two seasons in snowy glacier resort of La Plagne in France It is one of the largest ski resorts in the world. As a part of Paradiski area it covers 425 km of piste. It will take you half of the season to ski all the runs. The Vanoise Express cable car links la Plagne to Les Arcs acting as a vital link in the Paradiski area. The lift itself is very interesting as it stretches 1,800 metres, 380 meters over the valley, takes 4 minutes to cross, and it cost over 15 million Euros to complete. If skiing is what you are in to, definitely think La Plagne. It attracts all sorts of people from couples to large groups and individuals wanting to ski from early December all the way to late April. It has plenty of red and black runs as well as intermediate greens and blues. This Valley of Tarentaise has absolutely stunning views and gets some great snow because it stretches so high. On a powder day the Glacier runs are unforgettable. On a sunny day you can ski down to Champany1250m from centre of La Plagne, which not a lot of tourists do. It takes about an hour if you fancy a slow full of magnificent views slide through the fresh snow and while you are at the bottom sit in one of the cafés or restaurants enjoying a hot chocolate and a famous Crepe. You can also find lots of walking trails if you like a change from ski.
La Plagne is made out of many villages you can ski in and out of. On my days off I used to go shopping to Belle Cotte and ending up sunbating for hours in one of the slope cafes serving great coffee. In the evening there are plenty of little bars and restaurant and my most favourite that I always recommend is restaurant in La Plagne cente called La Groll with unbelievably juicy steak with foie gras! After that if you fancy going to a club that gets busy every night head to Belle Cotte’s Cosy bar. If you are into late après there is also Spitting Feather- English bar/pub in the same area. If you are in a centre head to Planja- Dutch bar with great atmosphere.
La Plagne was a part of winter Olympics in Albertville in 1992, and you get the chance to go down a world famous bobsleigh by yourself, with friends or the professional driver going up to 70mph! As my chalet incentive I won parapenhting/ sky gliding over La Plagne and got to see it by ‘flying’ above the slopes. Overall a great season with lots to see and do!
