Avoriaz

Sunday 18 October 2009

Added by: Alpine Elements

Again a part of the Portes du Soleil, Avoriaz is at the heart of a huge area with 650 kms of piste. It is not as popular as Morzine with the Seasonaires as the vibe is not as chilled or British. Morzine is the cooler hang out in this area.

However Avoriaz is at the heart of the Portes Du Soleil and although it can get crowded, it does offer direct access to 11 other stations. However the resort has a no car policy and so this makes it nice and safe to stagger around in late at night

Avoriaz is a very odd looking resort, designed by it’s architects to blend in with the craggy profile of the mountains. It is made almost entirely of wood and really could do with a thorough overhaul nowadays as without the snow it does look a bit tired and certainly not as pretty as Morzine.

The riding is the same as Morzine: Easy to access powder fields (but they do get tracked quickly) and plenty of drag lifts and fun features to make riding and skiing very interesting indeed.

The nightlife is quite French and very underground, with a high proportion of seedy après ski bars and dodgy discos!
