Summer Camp USA provides opportunities for thousands of enthusiastic individuals to work as Camp Counsellors for two months in the great American outdoors. BUNAC is inviting applications from those with (but not limited to) horse riding, lifeguarding and swimming, tennis, gymnastics and/or teaching experience as well as students, trainee teachers and other young adults interested in spending a fun and worthwhile summer working with children, while boosting their CV, earning some money and making lifelong friends.

With return flights, food and board all included in the programme fee of £495pp, participants are able to save their earnings and then travel around the States for up to six weeks, visiting places they have always wanted to see and enjoying the trip of a lifetime.

Camps are often located in a stunning lakeside setting and vary hugely from those that are privately owned, to others that are run by bodies such as the Salvation Army, the Scouts or religious organisations. There are also camps that are dedicated to disadvantaged children, as well as others that cater for youngsters with disabilities or special needs.

BUNAC’s comprehensive interview process and professional placement service is implemented by knowledgeable staff who have experienced the Summer Camp USA programme themselves. It ensures that the right candidates are matched to the camp positions available.

What’s more, BUNAC ensures that applicants are supported throughout the entire experience with a dedicated visa-processing department, together with specialist offices in the UK and New York, plus camp visits from BUNAC staff.

The recruitment interviews hope to attract applicants with a positive attitude, lots of energy, and recent experience of working with children, ideally in a leadership role. Teachers, trainee teachers, special needs workers, play scheme workers, scout leaders and sports coaches are all welcome.

Interview spaces are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis, so the earlier the interview the more chance of getting a place at summer camp.

Eligible candidates must be living in the UK, aged at least 18 and preferably have experience working with children or teaching an activity such as swimming, tennis, horse riding, sailing, music, archery or photography.
