Hi there I am really new to all of this only heard about courier work in the past few weeks. My partner and I are hoping to do this next season, but before we take the plunge have a good few questions that I have not really seen answered elsewhere. So I hope some of you lovely experienced folk can help us out.

First off I have seen lots of adverts for "Mature Couple Couriers" Well we are a bit of a mix in terms of our coupleness my partner is in their 50's and I am in my 30's so we are not really sure where we would fit in the Couples
Couriers world. Can anyone define what they mean by "Mature" Confused Any idea???

Secondly we have a very very much loved Dog a very tiny dog but much loved who we would not want to leave here. Do any companies allow dogs with their couple couriers?? This is hugely important to us.

Other than that we are really flexible and think this would be great for us. I do have one other question though. What if only one of us got hired? Would our other half still be able to join us in our accommodation ? We would gladly bring our own small caravan with us if that was possible.

Right I think that is it for now Smile Thank you in advance for any responses. Hopefully we will be joining you all next year. All  the best.

Hello! I work for Holidaybreak and there are so many couples in the region I work in, and every region! The age ranges do vary, last season we had some younger couples and older couples too, and you can apply together as a couple. You'd have to check with the site you get allocated about pets etc. as some sites are a no no, but if you let the company know when you apply they can probably try and cater for that. I know of a few couples that have had dogs out in region with them, and also have taken over their own caravan too!

Thanks so much for the detailed reply kayleigho92. Good to know about pets and taking our own caravan especially. :D And that there are a bunch of couples in all sorts of age ranges.

Anyone else with personal experience as well we would love to hear more about all this Smile

Hi Seagal,
we work for Al Fresco & I think the `mature` refers to mind more than body.
As we`re a smaller company you`ll only see your area-manager maybe once a month, so they`re looking for couples who can get on with it.  If you can deal with the various problems, do a little diy & keep smiling then the age is fairly immaterial, but lets say late twenties to retirement.

Thanks so much Shellshock. Do you know about the pets policy with your company??Our Chorkie is rather spoiled and would not be happy us leaving him with strangers Tongue Also does your company allow staff to bring their own caravans?

You`re very welcome,
yes you can bring pets as long as the campsite allow it,  you can`t take them into customer accom. though.

As for bringing your own van I`ve never come across it with our reps.  Sorry can`t be more help.

Thanks again Shellshock very much appreciated :) So is staff accommodation tents or mobiles?? Sorry to be such a pain just want to learn as much as we can. And they allow you to have your pet in their staff accommodation? And of course we would understand not letting our dog in any customer accommodation. Also when do we need to start applying for next year???

All Al Fresco staff live in mobiles, which your pet is allowed in.  I`ve heard the other companies are changing staff accom. to mobiles over this year & next.
We accept applications throughout the year I think, HB & Canvas about Sept./Oct.

Okay just thought of one more silly question Tongue. I have tattoos a good few of them in fact in places that can not be hidden ie my arms, legs and back of neck. Would this be a problem???

OK you got me,
Reps come in all shapes & sizes but I have no idea how tattoos are regarded.
At least you can be covered up at interview, they`re usually Dec./Jan. but I suppose you`d be wise to mention them.

Thanks again Shellshock :D Maybe someone else might know about the tattoo thing but you are right in regards to covering them, I always do when it comes to job interviews well as best as I can.

Tattoes are generally are OK again, I'd say cover them up and be honest about it, This is a question you could ask or even ring each company and say what you've got and is it  or not. They might appreciate you asking. But I think you'd be alright as long as they're not huge and offensive!

As for the dogs, there are loads of couriers that have dogs out there season in season out. Many campsites do accept dogs and you tell the tour operator when you apply and they look at where the can place you, and one of the criteria is which campsites will accept the dogs. There are more our there than you think although you might not quite get the "choice" that a couple without the dogs might have. You can check in the brochures which campsites accept dogs or not because its the same for the customers.

Hope that helps!

But campsites generally are great for dogs!

Thanks herecomesthesun :D Yes I would be upfront about the tattoos. But we are not even sure that a couples job is right for us as I am an independent artist for a living and I wonder if say my other half just applied for a mature courier post would I be able to go with him and stay as long as it was in our own caravan?? I know bizarre question but it might make more sense for us.If thats not an option then it would be the couple posts we apply for.

I have heard of that before (the bit where you go out and join him ) a couple of times. Its not the run of the mill, and I think it might be  a wise think to ring up say Al Fresco, Canvas and HB to se what their policys are. I would have thought if it was done by arrangement that it would be OK. They're usually reasonable with people, espcially the "mature" couriers when  you're up front and honest about it. Basically clear it with the company, let the Area Manager know and also the campsite when you get there.

Hi, me again,
I know of a couple of single couriers whose partners go with them.  Obviously you only get one salary but nobody minds if you share the work.

Hi I am back again with another question. After talking we are thinking it would be best if just my partner applied as a single mature courier due to some of our personal circumstances. With that being the case would it still be possible for me to go with him? Even if it meant staying in our own caravan? I am still unclear about this. So he would be the one employed by them but I would just be with him as his wife. Does that make any sense. Sorry to be a pain.

Hi, you'd have to discuss it with the company you apply with. In most cases they can give the employee a pitch to put their caravan so you'd have somewhere to live! Definitely ask the company though.. Don't see how it could be a big issue, there are existing single couriers that do live with their partners that are not employed by us!
