Could someone tell me what the rules are for receiving medication whilst working abroad.? Can the Doctor prescribe 6 months worth of medication or do you have to return home for the prescriptions? I am type 2 diabetic and obviously need my pills.

Thanks for the info'. I've checked with the post and there's no problem with posting medication. I also noticed there's a new rule allowing cross-border prescriptions so fingers crossed I'll be ok.

We could only get 1 month prescriptions for our stuff, so we took the repeat prescription in early by a week each time over last winter. We have now started to stockpile again for the coming season. We had also set up with a trusted friend to take the repeat prescription into the surgery, collect the medication and she would post it to us on site. In the end we didn't need her to. Also take with you lemsip, paracetamol, throat sweets etc., just in case. You can buy these things but if you are not very well, the last thing you want to do is trail around looking for a chemist! Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info'. My Doc never misses a trick and won't issue anything early. I'm going to look at this new cross-border prescription service if/when we get a job.

I am really concerned about not taking enough medication with me.
I remember managing to get 6 months before but that was a good while ago. I will take a copy of my prescription abroad though and will hopefully get what I want if needed. |
