Role Overview and duties

To assist the General Manager in overseeing the smooth-running of the day to day at The Georgian House whilst delivering a high level of product delivery, customer care and staff management. The job will be varied, and you will need to be adaptable and enthusiastic to fit with The Georgian House ethos.   

Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Responsible for assisting the General Manager with the smooth running of The Georgian House.

  • Act as Line Manager to all Front of House staff in the absence of the General Manager.

  • Generally oversee Front of House operations including playing an active role on the floor and bar on a daily basis.

  • Required to have a good understanding of the operations of each department, and a good knowledge of The Georgian House product across the board. 

  • Responsible for maintaining and improving The Georgian’s high standard of customer service and product delivery. 

  • Shared responsibility for the upkeep of the interior and exterior of the building.

  • Management of the overall ambience throughout the building. 

  • Getting to know our customers and their needs. 

  • Act as front of house manager for designated services, functions and events, ensuring the team are properly briefed and administrative tasks complete.

  • Ensure the team are suitably trained and are delivering service in accordance to The Georgian guidelines.

  • Responsible for monitoring staff performance, feedback to the General Manager.  

  • Be the first point of contact for staff and customers. 

  • Responsible for building an excellent rapport with all staff and ensuring good working relations between front and back of house team is maintained. 

  • Liaise with the kitchen team each service on bookings, requests, menu and relay feedback if necessary. 

  • Work closely with the General Manager to ensure the wellbeing of the team. 

  • Handover to the team coming in for the following service.

  • Awareness and management of running costs and ensuring wastage is kept to a minimum. 

  • Responsible for ensuring customer accounts and tabs are paid and reconciled at the end of each service.

  • Ensure the till is updated with new products and prices daily.

  • Upkeep a high level of communication with the General Manager and the team.

  • Monitoring the reservations diary several days in advance to ensure bookings have been inputted correctly and to ensure a smooth service. Make any necessary changes and notify customers.

  • Undertake administrative duties, including the creation and maintenance of staff rotas.

  • Management of room enquiries and reservations in the absence of the office team. 

  • Assist in the management of the Victoria when necessary. 

Skills and experience needed

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a restaurant environment.

  • Previous experience managing a team is essential.

  • Coffee experience preferred but not essential. 

  • Great social skills and energy.

  • Motivation, organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.

  • The ability to work alone and as part of a team.

  • The ability to thrive in a fast paced environment.

  • Adaptability and flexibility.

  • Good communication skills. 

  • A good knowledge of food and wine.

  • Be a supportive, impartial, fair and approachable figure to the team.

  • Set an example to the team in terms of work ethic and general conduct.  

  • To maintain a high standard in personal appearance and demeanour. 

  • Can work hard but most importantly have fun!
