Summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and customer focused Chalet Manager for Winter 2022/23 to join a team of four chalet staff in our luxury chalet in Châtel, France, part of the vast Portes du Soleil ski area. The Chalet Manager has the role of ensuring the team as a whole delivers to the high standards and expectations of our guests. The successful Chalet Manager will form part of a happy, motivated and independent team, enjoying leading benefits, the pleasure of working in a luxurious environment and with plenty of time to ski.

Job Details

Our guests typically number 8-14 children and adults each week. They expect to enjoy a luxury ski chalet experience, from the food and wine (a key part of our offering) that we serve, the chalet facilities, the beautiful setting overlooking the village, and the relaxed atmosphere created inside our lovely chalet.

You will work with the chalet team to create the ideal environment and ensure that our guests are looked after to a high standard. We have a very good reputation amongst clients for the quality of our service, facilities and the approachability of our staff, all of which are essential to maintain. The chalet manager will be expected to manage the guest experience, coordinate staff as necessary and maintain regular contact with business management. The Chalet Manager will be involved in all aspects of the chalet work along with the Hosts but will be expected also to have an eye for detail and a sense for guests’ requirements.

On some mornings breakfast and afternoon tea prep may be covered by the manager and hosts (although the chef remains responsible for all items being available). We serve hot & continental breakfast every day with afternoon tea and cakes being freshly prepared each morning for the guests to return to later on.

The Hosts and / or Chalet Manager will transport the guests to (and from) the lifts in our minibus each day. The morning can be a busy time with snow clearing, loading skis into the minibus and children often needing assistance with ski boots. Careful time management is essential especially if guests have morning lessons.

Once guests depart for the day there are daily housekeeping duties to attend to: tidying bedrooms and bathrooms, vacuuming floors, laying out afternoon tea, bringing in logs, additional snow clearing etc. The Chalet Manager will also take charge of ensuring an appropriate concierge service: making recommendations, booking lunches and other activities as required.

We provide guests a chauffeur service through the day which is delivered primarily by the Chalet Manager (3-4 days a week) and supported by the Hosts. This is a flexible period where you are ‘on call’ and can still enjoy skiing or boarding. We ask guests to provide 45 minutes notice of when they need picked up from the pistes.

Dinners are prepared by the chef six evenings a week and the Hosts and Manager take turns in managing drinks and dinner service from early evening, as well as assisting the chef in cleaning up. Depending on the guests there may be an early children's meal to be served. Canapés are then served for the for adults along with a sparkling Crémant, followed by a three-course evening meal which culminates with a generous cheese board. Wines are paired with each course nightly from our large cellar. 

On changeover day the Chalet Manager will ensure the high standards of housekeeping and chalet presentation are maintained in advance of new guest arrivals. While working very much as a team the Chalet Manager will take the lead in allocating any additional responsibilities and ensuring staff welfare.  Regular weekly and frequent adhoc communication with business managers will ensure accurate guest information also provide a conduit for staff feedback.

The role demands the flexibility to fill in for all other chalet tasks if necessary and adapt to circumstances. All staff are expected to work together to deliver a fabulous holiday experience for guests. 

The Package

We expect the winter season to be a fun experience. There will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the mountain environment and the many winter sports on offer. Châtel has a friendly atmosphere and there are many seasonaires keen to strike up new friendships. You will not find it hard to find new skiing partners.

We also expect our staff to benefit from the same calm and relaxing atmosphere that we aim to provide for our guests. With a team of four there is plenty of support available while working in and around the chalet.

We provide pre-season training for the whole team to learn about the chalet, the roles, to meet each other, and develop a good working relationship.

There will be two full days off every week with some additional time for skiing during the day.

Requirements

All our staff need to be enthusiastic team players focused on delivering a very high quality guest experience.

  • Well presented, outgoing, enthusiastic & motivated to deliver a great holiday experience for guests
  • Ski chalet experience
  • Hospitality food service experience (high end)
  • Client facing experience, ideally in hospitality
  • Good organisational skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • 21 years old or over (for driving insurance)
  • Clean Driving Licence
  • Fluent English

Ability to:

  • be a team player, willing to take on other roles and tasks
