Activities Manager (Beach)

Job Details

Reporting to the Waterfronts Operation Manager you will be responsible for the overall smooth running of the activities offered in resort and delivering our customers’ expectations of outstanding customer service. As the Activities Manager you will be responsible for providing support to the Beach Senior, Watersports Instructors, Activities Supervisor and Child Care staff. You may occasionally, act in any of these roles in their absence. You will also support our customers throughout their stay, answering any queries they may have. You will ensure that practical and theory based tuition is provided and that it adheres to RYA criteria along with guaranteeing that safety measures are in place and are followed at all times. In conjunction with the Waterfronts Operation Manager you will create and provide a staff development and training program including succession planning. You will also be responsible for conducting the weekly staff and guest welcome meeting.

What you will be doing:

Customer Focus

  • Collating weekly CSQ feedback and responding to any unsatisfied guests
  • Run a weekly welcome meeting for new guests explaining the activity programme
  • Dealing with guest complaints
  • Ensure staff create a welcoming and encouraging environment for guests to learn new skills
  • Run an end of week presentation/prize giving for guests

 

Operational

  • Organising weekly staff rota’s
  • Running a weekly staff meeting with all activities staff to discuss the previous week, feedback and prepare for the week ahead
  • Compile a weekly Managers Report, Sales Summary and other paperwork as part of the Overseas Reporting System
  • Arrange and contract staff accommodation
  • Arrange staff flights and travel to and from resort
  • Ensuring all equipment maintenance is completed
  • Ensure maintenance records are kept and are accurate
  • Motivating all activities staff to deliver high standards
  • Giving staff incentives and time off in accordance with operational needs e.g. windsurf rotation
  • Complete weekly H&S audits
  • Ensure all COSSH information is collated and stored on site
  • Write Risk Assessments for all beach related activities and areas of operation
  • Update the Ocean Elements Facebook page weekly
  • Responsible for instructor inductions
  • Responsible for implementing and completing ongoing training programs in all areas and at all levels for all staff
  • Responsible for ensuring that Apprentice Instructors are trained in accordance with governing body syllabus
  • Carrying out first aid and completing accident forms as necessary
  • Teaching a variety of sessions when required
  • Carrying out monthly stock takes
  • Overall stock control for your resort
  • Overseeing the safe and successful running of the bike programme
  • Overseeing the safe and successful running of the children’s programme

 

Sales

  • Upsell in-resort extras: Junior Squad, Private Tuition, Powerboat Tuition, merchandise
  • Equipment sales
  • Using initiative to meet sales targets on logbooks, course sales, merchandise and private tuition

 

Key Relationships:

  • Internal: Customers, Waterfront staff, Activities Supervisor, Activities Manager, Childcare staff
  • External: Suppliers, local authorities, hotel management

Qualifications

It is essential that you have the following qualifications:

  • RYA Dinghy Instructor
  • RYA Start Windsurf Instructor
  • RYA Intermediate Windsurfing Non-Planing Instructor
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2
  • Safety Boat Certificate
  • First Aid (valid for a minimum of 6 months from posting date)
  • Full, clean UK driving licence

 

It is highly desirable that you possess one or more of the following qualifications:

  • RYA Intermediate Windsurfing Planing Instructor
  • RYA Senior Instructor (in either discipline)
  • RYA Racing Coach Level 2
  • RYA Multihull Endorsement
  • RYA Powerboat Instructor
  • RYA Advanced Dinghy Instructor
  • RYA Advanced Windsurf Instructor
  • RYA Powerboat Trainer
  • RYA Windsurfing Trainer
  • RYA Dinghy Coach/Assessor
  • BCU Kayak Instructor
  • SUP Instructor

 

Experience

  • Seasonal overseas experience gained within Beach or Ski Tour Operator   (E)
  • Relevant / Transferable Work Experience (E)
  • People/Team Management/Supervisory Experience (E)
