We are looking to recruit 4 Seasonal Activity Instructors for the 2024 Season starting in February.
The Forest of Dean Activities team deliver activity session for school trips at two YHA sites in the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean:
1. YHA Wye Valley, Welsh Bicknor, Ross on Wye, HR96JJ - A hidden gem off the beaten track, tucked on the river bank next to beautiful woodland. Activities include bushcraft, fencing and archery.
2. YHA St Briavels Castle, Coleford, GL15 6RG - A fantastically well preserved Castle with a wonderful medieval history. Activities include hosting banquets, guided tours and candle dipping.
The two sites are about 10 miles apart and about a half hour drive. Most of our team work at both sites at least some of the time, many activities occur at both sites so you won’t miss out!
PLEASE NOTE If you are only able to work at one site you are still welcome to apply to join the team, we are looking to cover between 24 to 42.5 hours per week.

Join our team as an Activity Team Member – Creating life-changing experiences for guests!
As an Activity Team Member, your contributions are key to changing the lives of our guests. You’ll find yourself in a role that is central to creating memorable experiences for all, regardless of your background or experience.
Whilst the role concentrates predominantly on the activity aspects of our hostel you may be asked to assist in other hostel departments. Our activity team members cover a wide range of customer-facing duties throughout the hostel, delivering an excellent service to all guests and visitors so they have a great experience at YHA.
Your responsibilities
- Safety - Ensuring safety and adherence to YHA standards and regulations, all while delivering engaging and enjoyable experiences.
- Tailoring activities to meet the unique needs of our guests, actively seeking feedback to enhance service and retention.
- Collaborating with group leaders to facilitate their roles and provide outstanding activity experiences.
- Maintaining and ensuring the functionality of equipment, promptly reporting any issues to the hostel's management team.
We acknowledge that this role may involve physical demands, including standing for extended periods and maintaining guest accommodations to the highest standards. This role requires weekend and bank holiday working, early starts and evening working – all on a rota basis.
