Kaprun- The perfect winter

Austria  Austria flag

The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier

Kaprun is definitely one of Europe’s hidden gems. It has got everything you would ever want from a ski holiday. You can pick and choose between the 2 main ski areas depending on what kind of skiing/boarding you want to take on. The Kitzsteinhorn glacier is perfect for those sunny days- lovely and high up (up to 3000m!) beautiful open bowl, huge well groomed piste that are as wide as the M25, and snow conditions that are completely unrivalled. Then of course, there is the more picturesque Zell am See ski area, with beautiful, long, tree-lined runs, that run from the top of the mountain, all the way down to the striking town which is nestled right by the lake. The range of mountain restaurants are second to none, whether you want to go to the “Big Apple” self service restaurant where you can get food from all over the world, or a lovely little Austrian “Hütte” and indulge in the local cuisine, or you can put on your dancing shoes and head up to the very top of the mountain in Zell am See and enjoy the lively festivities at “Schnapps Hans”, Kaprun literally has it all!

The village of Kaprun has lots of non skiing activities to embark on too- Ice skating, high altitude walks, paragliding, sleigh rides and there is the new €90million spa complex in the village too. If eating and drinking is your thing, Kaprun has a huge variety of bars and restaurants, ranging from high quality international restaurants, very traditional Austrian restaurants, to Paletti’s a small pizza bars which serve the best pizzas in the area!

Kaprun has everything in the all round package from the friendly locals, to the nightlife and restaurants, and the skiing is absolutely fantastic, it is definitely worth a trip.

My first winter season in Alpe D'huez

Alpe d'Huez has been nicknamed 'the Island in the sun' for a very good reason. Boasting the fifth largest ski area in France, there is a good variety of skiing for all abilities. A great family resort you will find excellent ski school, Crystal childcare a
