Seasonal jobs in Scotland

Scotland is a well-developed tourist destination with attractions ranging from unspoilt countryside, mountains and abundant history. Tourism is responsible for sustaining 200,000 jobs mainly in the service sector, so there is lots of scope for summer jobs in Scottish tourism. Also look for summer camp jobs (more in England but you will find them up in Scotland, and jobs in agriculture for backpackers and students on a break.

Tourism, campsite and Hospitality Jobs

Scotland's summer jobs are mostly in the tourism and service industries. There are also TEFL jobs and summer school employers that centre on English language, notably ISSOS in beautiful St Andrews. The busy centres of Edinburgh and Glasgow provide lots of bar and restaurant work but getting digs is expensive. In Scotland there are a large number of Hydro's or large country estates that have been converted into hotels, golf resorts and spas. These places take on a lot of summer staff each year and often provide accommodation due to their frequently remote locations.

Scotland is also home to many campsites, caravan and holiday parks. These places take on a range of summer staff from wardens to sales and reception staff. Some of the biggest parks are situated in Scotland such as Seton Sands near Edinburgh (part of the Haven group of sites, Haven are a large employer of summer staff nationally) or Sandylands over in Ayrshire operated by Park Resorts who are also a summer staff employer (2 parks in Scotland).

Agricultural jobs in Scotland

Another idea for finding seasonal work in Scotland would be to look to the agricultural industry. Around Fife and Perthshire (counties North of Edinburgh) you will find countless fruit and veg farms that take on extra workers during the harvest. Accommodation is also possible with these jobs, mostly in old mobile homes. Some of the better farms to work for also provide extra services like free buses into town in order to attract the best workers. Although at the moment competition is suddenly much higher for these jobs you can still find them if you look hard enough.
