Apparently Thomson and Cosmos have been making noises abbout binning reps as a component for some of their package holidays. Presumably this would be the for cheaper packages to cut costs rather than increasing price. Peter Rothwell, managing director of TUI, justified the idea by saying that not all clients expected the same level of service (source TTG).

Whatever the reasons, if they do it, it might mean a fairly dramatic cut in the opportunities for traditional repping work in the main European resorts. On top of the recent capacity cuts in Spain by some larger operators this might have an effect on you over the next couple of seasons if you are looking to work as a rep.

The best defence is to look at areas where there will always be reps and make sure you are suitable for the role. High end, expensive holidays where customer service is the focus will always have reps, strong experience in customer service related fields will always bring you out on top when facing increased competition for jobs.

well i work for thomson, the whole industry as i am sure you know is trying to compete against each other in order to be the best and yes money is a large issue at hand, but draw backs that are being made are in the best interests for both staff and the customers that we deal with so that we can carry on, like many other companies, and strive to be the best.
