Hi all, I hope you can help.
I am considering doing my TEFL course soon with a view to living and working in France (probably Paris). I've heard and read varying accounts the working life and would be greatful if you could share your experience... Is it easy to secure work in a city such as Paris? (enough work/hours to support yourself) And also are there many full time contracts offered? I'm not sure how easy it is securing employment as I cannot yet speak decent French - is this much of a problem? Many thanks for your help, your answers may well decide my future career! Mclaren. |

If you do anything do a Celta. They are backed by cambridge. If you do a tefl course make sure they are not backed by themselves. They have to have some schools backing them or its just the cert is worthless.

Hiya,
The best way to ensure you can get work is to get a certified TEFL qualification. Make sure your get your qualification from a company like i-to-i who are accredited by the ODLQC (the Open and Distance Learning Council). Most schools will accept this kind of qualification but it's always good to check with the school you are hoping to teach at; contact them and find out what qualifications a teacher will need and which accrediting bodies they acknowledge. If they accept your qualifications you shouldn't have any trouble finding a job. This website is really good for TEFL info http://www.onlinetefl.com Good luck! |

Yo Jo! :)
Yes, I have also heard that you need a degree and TEFL to teach in Thailand. I'm heading off to Hanoi in October and I had to have my TEFL AND degree (needed for the visa application). I did a lot of research into S.E.Asia before settling on Vietnam and I am aware that it is possible to teach in the region without a degree but you won't be legal. The degree is required for most countries in the region as the visa depends on having this qualification. All the best! J. |

From what I learnt, schools in Europe will generally want to see some 'proper' TEFL certification such as the CELTA or Trinity TESOL. In other places you may be able to get away with some practical experience, but really you should be capable enough to be able to deliver a good lesson to your students. As for living and working in Paris without speaking French, you'll find it difficult so maybe a starter course would be the best option before you go!

Are you a non-EU citizen? If so, it’s difficult to find a teaching job in Western European countries such as France. I wasn’t aware of this when I first took my TEFL course (I initially wanted to teach in Italy or Spain), but I had an open mind and was willing to work anywhere. I took a course last year at TEFL Worldwide Prague, which is accredited and externally moderated by IATQuO and I’m very glad I did. If you’re a non-EU citizen, I’d advise you to check out TEFL job options in Eastern Europe as well as work in Eastern European countries such as Czech Republic, Ukraine, Russia, Turkey. Hungary seems to be an emerging market as well in the TEFL world. Best of luck! Justin – TEFL Worldwide Prague Class of September 2011 |

Hi!
![]() I'd say TO DO TEFL Few years ago I decided to take a career break and prepared myself attending part-time TEFL courses with Cactus Language. I taught English in Peru for 7 months and that had been the most enriching experience I've ever done in my life. I was earning money while helping people to improve their English language skills. You will find the link here:http://www.cactustefl.com/ Regards |
