I'm having a serious debate in my head between Canada (Whistler, Banff or Fernie) and France (Chamonix or the 3 valleys. Can anyone assist me in my decision making process?

Hey. I've not done a season myself yet (planned for next winter), but I have skied ever winter for god knows how many years....

My favourite place is the 3 valleys and especially Meribel. It has a fantastic night life and it is the middle valley, so you can have a little more choice as to where you do your days skiing.

Canada! without a doubt. Yes ok i may be a little biased as i just spent a year there in Lake Louise but having just been to france/switzerland for a week it made me miss canada a lot!
It does however depend what your looking for as the resorts in france are ok (meribel was good les arcs not) but unless you can speak fluent or very good french you will find it a lot tougher in france as they (in my experience) are very un-welcoming to foreigners unless you can convince them, in their language, that your not just another tourist! but that was just my experience and i am in no way saying that all the french are rude just the ones i encountered along the way!
But i loved canada and banff/lake louise is a lot nicer than whistler (unless you are more into posing than actually snowboarding/ skiing "catch some pow man?!" ) not been to fernie but heard ok reports about that

so in summary

1) Banff
2) Fernie
3) whistler
4) europe

i dont know if you have thought about doing a season in switzerland but i also visited verbier and have to say out of all the places i visited in europe it was the nicest and there was less of a need for fluency in the language and they were slightly mors accomodating plus a lot better snow than france at the time!

if you need any more info about canada i would be more than willing to help if i can

hope that helps

Lucy
You might just be the girl i need!!!!!!!!!!
Im off to Canada in Jan with my missus, and ANY info you have would be greatly appreciated. (or anyone else reading this!!)
We were going to head to Whistler, because it's the biggest, and figured that would provide the most entertainment for 5 months, but you seem to reckon other areas are better... Help!!! Why do you think this? Any tips would be well received
thanks Chuck
