THE WAY TO OLYMPICS FOR WOMEN SKATEBOARDS IS LARGER

Nowadays, there is nearly no distance between males and females in skateboarding, because of the raise of many brilliant female skateboarding talents. So what we can expect next? The 2020 Tokyo Olympics, of course.

On the afternoon of a hot January day in the eastern area of the bustle city Los Angeles, Lacey Baker is at Rosemead Skatepark to enjoy skateboarding time with her friends. Then she has a phone call. Stepping on the skateboard, she rides to the side of the park to pick up the call while the surrounding is full of familiar sounds: the yells of skaters “Yip” or “Yew”, the sound of wheels colliding with the ramps, and so on.

The call is from Nike SB team about the release of her new collection of shoes next week. Vanessa Torres, Mariah Duran and Jenn Soto are Baker’s friends, and also skateboarders coming from all around the world. They gather here to have a photograph event with a professional skateboarder, Arto Saari.

At this time, Baker is considered as one of the brilliant skateboarding talent with admirable achievement: a gold medalist at X-Games at the age of 25 with amazing 270s noseslides, getting sponsors and cooperations with famous brands, a huge number of fans always encouraging her. To be like her, now you should know what is the best skateboard for beginners at skateadvisors.

As you may know, skateboarding is the sport for anyone, no limitation of the gender. It is known to appear first in California in the 20th century. At that time, there were some outstanding female skateboarder such as Peggy Oki and Laura Thornhill.

They took part in the development of this sport, not only in America but also spreading to many countries. However, the first female professional skateboarder just came into true when Toy Machine signed an official contract with Elissa Steamer. According to Steamer, it was a huge deal and she got no reason to deny it. However, she also said that although there was not many opportunities, she had a dream to become a professional skateboarder when she was young.

Because of main characteristics of skateboarding, this sport gets no limitation at all. From the starting point, it is a sport that no one have a try before at a place no one have a thought to do before. Skateboarders find their chances when they see the walkside, the stairs or pavements.

Find your own chance at skateadvisors.com. We can link to a case of the first professional skater Cara-Beth Burnside having her own shoes in 1994. It was because her idea was admired by a shoe brand, Vans. No one would handle you anything without your effort, Burnside noted. The same attitude was brought by Burnside in 2002 when she and Jen O’Brien contacted X Games to convince them to hold a women event.

After the effort of Burnside and the other, the first official platform for women was setup at the international event one year later. However, while the male competitors were still on the beds, the female ones had time to practice. In particular, the payment between men and women was also a problem when there was a huge distance between them.

For example, men were paid more 25 times than the women. Burnside and her friend, Mimi Knoop, asked for the help from the lawyer Drew Mearns to establish a organization named Action Sports Alliance to gain more benefits for women. According to Knoop, it was not only to show the power of women but also bring them what they should have, like skating, like any woman. With her, this action was aimed to bring opportunities to other girls.
