When`s the best time of year to go?
The best time to go depends on your individual circumstances.

If you want to have a shot at the best jobs and be there for all the opening parties, go in one of the last 2 weeks of May or the 1st week in June. This also gives you an opportunity to get to know all the fellow workers and have some good ol` ****-ups down at sunset strip, Bar M and Wips supermarket!!!

If you can`t make it then though, as a lot of people can`t through work or university commitments, all is not lost. No matter when you go in the season whether it`s May, June, July or August, you`ll always find people coming and going from jobs and if you`re in the right place at the right time, any job can be yours.

I don`t want to go for the whole season. Is it possible to work for a shorter period of time?
Yes it is.

The longer you stay, the more time you have to experience everything Ibiza has to offer but you`ll have just as good a time going for only a month. One of the disadvantages of going for a shorter period of time is that people won`t know you that well so you may find it a little harder to get jobs, it really depends on you as a person though.

Should I book a holiday or just flights when I go out there?
Again this is down to you as an individual, how much money you have and how confident you are about making your own arrangements.

Booking a week or twos holiday can be a good way to get yourself settled and gives you some breathing time to find some more permanent accommodation. On the down side though, it will cost more money than making your own arrangements.

The other option is to book cheap flights to go out there and stay in one of Ibiza`s many reasonably priced Hostels. There are so many cheap airline companies at the moment, like Easyjet and Jet 2, and you can pick up cheap flights for under £50. Hostels can also cost as little as €12 (£8) per night so making your own arrangements can work out cheaper.

What should I take with me?
If you plan to be in Ibiza in May, the start of June or the middle to end of September, you might want to take a jumper or warm top as the evenings can get a little cooler.

Everyone has their favourite brands of toiletries and make up and one thing you may find difficult is to find those same brands in Ibiza. I`d recommend that anything you couldn`t do without, you should take as much as you`ll need for the duration of your stay or be prepared to get things sent over from the UK for you. You will be able to find alternatives but if you are fussy, make those preparations.

There`s the obvious things that you need to take like your E-111 & your passport but I`d also consider taking out extra travel insurance that will cover you against loss or damage of your possessions or problems with your health.

I`d take a phone out there with you if you have one as a lot of workers buy Spanish pay as you go SIM cards to keep in touch. It`s not essential to have a phone out there but like this country, it`s the easiest way to keep in touch. If you do take a phone with you, you may also need to get the phone unlocked so you can use a Spanish SIM card in it.

I`d also take travellers cheques with you to get you started. You can use cash machines out there with your UK cards but you do get charged for taking money out.

How much money should I try and take out with me?
Again this is dependant on the individual and their circumstances.

If you can save up enough money to cover your rent for the whole season and still have some money spare to help get you settled in your first few weeks, then you`ll be in a very good position. If you don`t, then its not then end of the world either.

I took £750 out with me in my first year and survived fine although things were a little tight at times. In an ideal world though, I`d aim to take £1000-£2000 out there and, so as long as you`re not out of work too often, this should be fine.

Can I go out on my own or is it best to go with a group?
If you go out with a group, or with a friend, it can make things easier to get settled and meet new people. Going out on your own isn`t the end of the world though as you`ll be in the same boat as a lot of other workers so you`ll soon meet lots of like minded people. It all depends on what you`re most comfortable with.

I went out on my own and had a great time making lots of new friends!

Is it easy to meet new people?
When you`re working in Ibiza, the workers have to stick together and a real community spirit develops as they all look out for each other. It`s thanks to this camaraderie that you can talk to any workers out there and be on friendly terms from the outset.

What are the other workers like?
You`ll find the majority of other workers are just like you; enjoy going out clubbing, friendly and are there to meet new people and have a good time. You`ll also meet probably the craziest, friendliest and nicest people you`ve ever met in your life; the place is full of nutters!

Are there any dodgy characters out there?
You do get some dodgy characters out there but the majority of workers are nice, trustworthy people so there`s no need to worry about them.

Is there an accommodation centre?
There isn`t an official accommodation centre although the unofficial one has always been the Ship Inn, a pub based in the square at the top of the West End. They have an advertising board in there where Landlords advertise their properties. If you do go in and use the board to search for a property, make sure you buy a drink from the bar every so often. There are also private estate agents who rent out properties for the season although in my experience the majority of workers don`t use this method.

What`s the accommodation like?
The standard of the accommodation can vary a great deal so be careful about where you live.

Most accommodation is in the form of flats with one or two bedrooms. Each Flat normally has 2 single beds in the bedrooms, 1 or 2 sofa beds in the front room, open plan or separate kitchen / living area, a balcony and a bathroom. If you`re in a flat in a complex, there is also the chance of having the use of a communal swimming pool.

There is also the possibility of finding a house or villa to live in but these can sometimes be a little more out of the way. They`ll probably be more spacious with bedrooms having 2 single beds and a separate front room and kitchen. If you get enough people in them, they can be quite cheap.

Hostels are another form of accommodation you may find handy when you first get to Ibiza or if your in between accommodation. These are generally very basic rooms with 1, 2 or 3 single beds and your own bathroom with no cooking facilities. These can be cheap in the short term but not as cheap as getting a flat or a house for a month which will cost a lot less.

How do I find accommodation?
Again, the best place to go as a starting point is the Ship Inn to see what they have advertised. Other good avenues to follow are other workers, speak to them and find out where they live and then go and see if the apartments have other rooms available. Speaking to other workers is also the best way to find out whether a particular apartment building is any good or whether there are certain landlords you should stay away from.

Make sure you make use of the other workers as the worker network is the best way to keep abreast of other opportunities and what`s going on in the island.

How much can I expect to pay for rent?
Rent really depends on the type of accommodation and how many people you have living there but generally comes in either weekly or monthly contracts. The cheapest you`ll probably find will be around €200 per month which aren`t always the nicest, can be hard to find and get filled quite quickly. The most you can expect to pay is limitless dependant on how much money you have and how luxurious the place is.

Expect to pay €200-€300 per month for your rent.

Whereabouts on the island should I live?
This is down to you as an individual, how good your foreign language skills are and where you feel most comfortable being.

Most British workers generally work in San Antonio as pretty much everyone speaks English there. You`ll also find more work for English speaking people as it`s very much the main resort on the island for UK holiday makers. It`s also where the infamous West End, Sunset Strip, Bar M, Eden and Es Paradis are so the majority of tourists are young Brits.

You`ll also find Playa D`en Bossa has quite a few UK workers although the holiday makers there are more mixed between German, Italians, British and Spanish. If you speak foreign languages then it`s a big plus for working here but it`s not essential.

Ibiza Town is a very cosmopolitan place and it`s much more up market than San Antonio. If you want to work here, it definitely helps if you can speak a foreign language as the tourists here comprise of Germans, Italians and Spanish more than British people.

Is there a job centre?
There isn`t an official job centre, no.

How do I find work?
Again, the Ship Inn is a good place to look as people advertise work there.

You`ll also find the bars hosting pre parties for the big club nights will also advertise when jobs are going for those particular clubs.

Speaking to other workers is another good way to see where the jobs are going as they may know when people have been sacked or have quit and if you`re at the right place at the right time then your luck could be in.

Lots of leg work is the other option by walking around all the bars and cafes asking if there are any jobs going.

What kinds of jobs can I expect to do?
You can expect to do a wide variety of jobs with the most common ones being: PR, Bar Person, Waiter / Waitress, Posterer, Flyerer and Entertainers. Other jobs that are in fewer supply are: Ticket Seller, Distribution work, Nanny-ing, PR Manager, Hostess, retail work, Chef and other club related jobs.

How much money can I expect to earn?
Wages in Ibiza can vary a great deal but don`t expect to earn similar to what you`d earn in the UK.

Dependant on what job you do and how hard you work, expect to earn €80-€250 per week.

Will I get in free to clubs?
You won`t get in free to clubs just because you`re working out there. Some clubs do give out workers passes but only on the basis that you`re working already and a lot of these have to be done through your boss. The same applies on getting guest list into clubs, you normally have to go through your boss to try and sort it out. You can also get into clubs for free if you know the right people who can sort it out for you.

Who are the best places to work for?
This is down to personal preference but jobs for the bigger club nights are always very popular, pay reasonably well, have a certain prestige factor and are always good fun to do.

Will I enjoy myself?
As long as you realise that you have to work when you go out there and your not there just for an extended holiday, then I think you`ll definitely enjoy yourself. I know a lot of workers and I haven`t met many who 1) haven`t enjoyed themselves and 2) haven`t wanted to go back again!!! Ibiza is like a drug, once you`ve been the first time, you just wanna keep going back!

The years I`ve spent working in Ibiza have been some of the best years of my life and I recommend the experience to anyone. I`ve enjoyed myself so much that I`m going to be back there again this year!

Do you need experience for every job in Ibiza? ive booked to go out to Ibiza for the summer to find work but dont have much experience in bar work or restaurant work will this effect me ? 🙂🌞
