If anyone is thinking of coming to work in Meribel for the season then " GO FOR IT" You will love it but be ready for the slavemasters who run most businesses here. You will work your nuts off (If you have any) for low pay.I have to live there so I can't tell you who they are but no doubt you will find out soon enough. Look through more message boards.
There are about 180 Meribel chalets so you should have no problem finding season work here.If you come out without a job fixed then have a look in the Taverne on the notice board or Jacks Bar. Many jobs get posted up here. Usually before Xmas most jobs are taken but after New Year many workers get homesick and go back. Keep an eye out for Saturday and Sunday Transfer reps jobs. They are a long working day but pay quite well.
The skiing and riding is fantastic for all levels. Take a look at the Resort information -Meribel Ski Area on www.meribel-unplugged.co.uk It's the best free ski & ride guide to the 3 valleys on the web. Print it out. You will find it very useful in your early days on the slopes. It has 200 pages totally dedicated to Meribel. From one week Meribel Ski Holidays to a full snowboarding season with absolutely everything you need to know.
If you are not working in a chalet with food included try to do your shopping at Moutiers. It is much cheaper.
The supermarket behind the railway station is best with no crowds. (But no toilets either!). Toilets by the way at Casino in Moutiers are disgusting. Use the ones at the Rail station or Super U on the way down. In fact Super U saves you even going in to town at all. While you are down there a real nice lunch can be had for about 11 Euros at the Coq Rouge near the Cathedral. If you are working in a chalet try to make Chalet Bargains. A packed lunch with maybe a plastic container with some of your free wine in it. Make it attractive looking and you could make lots of money in the season. Get together with the other staff and try to do BBQ's down at the Altiport area. (If it's still allowed).
Shopping for food in Meribel? Try the cooked chicken at "Gourmadine", down near Jacks Bar. Take the free range (Rouge). It's the best in town and their Hot Pannini sandwiches are big enough for two. Best meat is at the butchers and the little bakery opposite has the best Croissants. The main bakery has the best coffee in town upstairs. Rond Point has the best coffee on the mountain.
If you are looking for a second hand snowboard pop in the Tavern, or go see Christoph at Snowtoys or Jonathon at Board Brains. These are two dedicated Meribel Snowboard shops .Board hire and ski hire long term in Meribel is expensive . Second hand skis can be bought cheap at several Meribel Ski Shops. Try Darren at Freeride or Patrick at Intersport. Pop up and see John at Mottaret Sports. This group has four ski shops in Mottaret.
Get your season Disco ticket sap for Dicks T bar as itís the only place for late night partying. If you can prove you are a seasonaire then these Meribel Bars ,the Rond Point /Jacks Bar/barometer/Pub will all give a discount on drinks.
"The Ronnie is really the only place for Apres Ski with live bands every day.
Get prepared for "New years Eve" .If you want to get in to Dicks or even the Pub or Taverne you have to pay. Prepare your night out in advance or you might find yourself without a drink. At midnight the buses donít come in to town either. If you need one it's parked at Chaudanne. Taxis are impossible to find unless you book and pay in advance.
Two of the big nights in Meribel is the Star Wars and James Bond nights at Dicks so take your stuff with you from the UK. It's hard to buy fancy dress gear in Meribel. Check out Dicks web site for other theme nights.
Take a small radio with you. Radio Meribel broadcasts every day between 8am-9am in English.97.9fm The Weather, What's on, UK news and Piste reports. All very useful.
Finally In December the magazine MU (Meribel Unplugged) arrives. Keep a copy as it has all the best value Meribel restaurants and three valley restaurants inside plus lots of other useful info.If you have a chalet get copies for your clients. It will save them asking you the same questions every week. Enjoy your season.Doot.

Is it possible to be employed in meribel chalets as a non EU passport holder in any position such as an assistant, host, cleaner or part time help. Do people get considered who have worked previous ski seasons in france with a lot of hospitality experience and being employed on a casual basis?

I want to go out and work in Meribel this season but I've yet to sort out a job on the resort. I can head out as soon as I want but I want to know what realistically my chances are of getting work out there. Anyone be kind enough to tell me?

Saturday/Sunday reps jobs always available at start of season.Pay about £40-£50 a day.
Otherwise it's difficult to find casual work in Meribel unless pre arranged.Try everywhere and get a mobile phone and leave your tel no with everyone.Visit www.Vistaprint.co.uk and get free business cards printed
with your details on it.Payment by credit card on line for postage only.
Accomodation is very expensive,even shared.approx £1500 per season.Lift pass approx £550.

If you have a car and are looking for work there is a very cheap B & B hotel in Moutiers.Park the car. Walk over the bridge and turn left down the pedestrian precinct.
50 yards down on the left is an old fashioned Hotel .prices about £12 per night.pp. two sharing.
