Hello, I went for an interview in a suit and i got the job. I'm sure that is not the only reason i got the job but it certainly helped. Go dressed smart and the rest is up to you to prove :).

What position are you going for?

I got in pretty early and got job sorted in June fortunately. I'm sure you'll get the job by the sound of it. I take it you're working in Turkey then? Is it not so great? I was hoping to do a summer season next summer too. I guess you wouldn't recommend it?

Ah i see so youve had ages to wait then. I cant get to any interviews until Im back which is mid September. Yer doing a bit of work over here. Its really good just some of it is a bit boring at times but I guess thats the same with any job. No I would recommend it its really worth doing I would just make sure that its something that you want to do and that your in a busy resort

Yeah i guess that is the case. Work is mental for me at the moment. It is literally 6 days a week full on and you're absolutley right in saying that i have just been thinking of this as my light at the end of the tunnel. Still.. Less than 3 months to go :D.

Despite everyone saying that holiday rep is very hard work i'm still kind of expecting it to be easy going compared to job at the mo. So all is going to be well!!!

Posted By: laurenAmy
Date Posted: 21 August 2011 at 21:38
doesnt seem that long 3 months. What do you work as now then?
Its gonna be hard work and full on and long hours but hey everyone that ive spoken to loves it so cant be that bad

I work as a car salesman and the pressure is on (in a good way) to make as much money for the season. It kind of works both ways as in i don't want the season to come so i can make more money but at the same time i want it to be tomorrow cos i'm just a bit bored of everything at the mo and i'm just too excited about it all!

Have you done many seasons before LaurenAmy?

Posted By: laurenAmy
Date Posted: 21 August 2011 at 21:44
ah right fair enough then I used to work at a car sales garage but as a receptionist, once your out there time will fly past trust me doesnt even feel like I have been away a week let alone 9 weeks
No this is my first season as I was at college so this was my first chance have you done any?

I have done just the 1 in canada. It was very good but i didn't work when i was there so this is going to be a different experience all together and i have got a feeling i'm going to get a lot more out of this. Awesome! Is this a gap year for you or are you thinking about travelling around for a couple of years? I'm thinking i might literally try and see all of Europe; travelling and working.

Posted By: laurenAmy
Date Posted: 21 August 2011 at 21:53
omg I would actually love to do that never been to Canada just to snowboard 24/7 would be amazing. You will get a lot out of working in a different country just dont get angry when they dont understand you as it will happen a lot
Hopefully do it for a while until I decide I actually need to stay in England
Thats pretty cool I love travelling just wouldnt have the guts to do that

Yeah it was really good. You get really snobbish with the snow though and get to the point where if it's not a powder day just do something else. I had a really good time when i was there. The plan is to work in Italy in Sauze but i haven't been given my placement confirmation yet. I think it's coming at the end of the month. Then at the end of the season have a bit of a mooch around Italy especially Rome!

I had an interview with them (for a bar supervisor position) a few weeks ago - just hadn't got around to posting on this forum till now!
The interview's fairly straightforward. The majority of the guys wore suits/ smart trousers, shirt and tie, the woman were wearing a mixture of businessy suit type things/skirts and shirts etc. All dressed up fairly smart!

What I'd emphasise is to know the companies well - what each one does, who they cater for, and their history, market position etc. Have a look into where they operate, and where you may want to work, and have some rough idea to show you have at least thought about the ski season (I didn't do this and felt a bit silly as pretty much everyone else had some sort of idea).
The presentation... don't stress too much about it. Make it unique to you, and just be confident with it... you can do anything really, as long as you can tie it to the job role - I gave a lesson on how to get served in a bar faster, whereas one guy brought a sick bucket from his time on a tall ship and spoke about that. They can really vary!

Finally, jut be confident. They will go through a quick questions part - where they ask the group a question as a whole; make yourself known and put your own answers out there; everyone tries to do this, so it can be a bit tricky. Just be eloquent and again, confidence.

Morale of the story, be confident, know the companies, and make yourself known (in a good way) to the interviewers.

On a good note, I was in a group of around... 10 people? I think we all got offered jobs.

Hope this helps :)

Egg - I love snow no matter what so dont think that will happen just as im not fussed about the sun over here at the minute and spend every minute I can trying to get a tan and being outside. I can play hockey but never tried ice hockey looks well scary but amazing. Also your plan sounds really good wish I could do that been to Roma already its amazing

Shanks - Oh ok well done bet your soo excited. Thought that would be the case with dresscode did the girls wear their hair up or down? stupid question I know but just dont want to be the opposite to everyone
where did you get all of your information about the companies from? I have been on all of the websited but cant find any information on teh total ski website about how the company started etc
Oh ok then yours sounds well good I cant think of anything apart from what Im doing over in Turkey at the moment
OK I will try and do all of that throuıgh my interview and try not to be shy haha
Oh ok thats an alrighht group size I was scared it was going to be about 30 people

Date Posted: 22 August 2011 at 19:58
Why don't you do it then? What country are you planning to work in?

I have an embarrassingly poor tan for this summer :(. I'm would literally disappear if i took my shirt off on the slopes :D!

Thanks! Yeh, I'm looking forward to the winter season! Erm, the girls hair was a mixture of both really - whatever you feel suits the occasion best; whatever would make you feel most comfortable I guess.
Info about the companies can generally be found on their websites in "About" sections... and possibly the use of Google - As I mentioned, this is something I didn't do... Also look into Hotelplan; their parent company - knowledge seems to impress them and get some boxes ticked :)
What job have you got the interview for? This can alter how you should tailor your presentation, and without knowing this, I can't offer any suggestions. However, use what I said above, and make sure that it shows that you've put effort and spent time doing it.
Yeh, I was worried about being too shy, but it's a relaxed atmosphere, so helps settle the nerves - and preparing well, helps a lot! :P
Hm, I dunno what the group size will be, as it's a bit closer to the time... Hopefully, for your sake, it won't be any more than about 10! :)

I've got a fantastic t-shirt tan this summer... :P

rather jealous that youve got your job already sorted and im sat worrying about my interview when I get home
ok then thank you I will go on all of that and find out some more infromation
its for Hotel Assistant and Ive already got hotel experience which I guess is probably a pretty good thing to have
Iver started thinking about what to do already as I have got quite a bit of time then sort it out propperly when Im actually back home
oh ok I thought it would be really formal and then ı would just freak and not talk
thanks I hope so to but I should be fine hopefully
Haha well done Ive just got bikini lines haha shows what I do everyday before I go to work

Don't stress too much, you'll be fine!
Oh, hotel assistant? Well, I can't even pretend to help, as I don't actually have any idea what you'd be doing... But as you have the experience, you'll have way more of an idea :P
Nahh, not too formal! The interviewers would like to have a laugh; they do hundreds of these over this period, and it'll make it less monotonous - remember this when planning your presentation too!
Ha. I don't have any of those :P Gonna work on getting rid of my t-shirt tan... When I have the time...

Got an interview for Bar Supervisor on 7th. I've read everyone's replies and they've made me less nervous. I've got bags of experience as a Bar Manager, so im hoping they will look at that as I'm not very good at group interviews.

Has anyone seen the bar supervisor interviews? I was thinking of maybe doing a very quick and basic cocktail flair class (throwing the bottles around) in the hope it shows im a team player, maybe even ticking that box haha! Im thinking think might be a train wreck though :(

When I had my interview for a bar supervisor, I was the only one there for that position. So, I'm guessing, you'll be in the same boat too, well, sorta - the group interview will probably be for a mix of different positions. I imagine flaring is something they've seen a lot for bar related work, and if you're not 110% confident about it, think about something else you could do, which perhaps they haven't seen?

Posted By: Lee89
Date Posted: 23 August 2011 at 22:49
Ah brilliant thanks, I take it their looking for key things during the group stage then? ie: if you're applying as a bar supervisor you'll have to demonstrate that you take a natural lead etc? I did wonder if they have seen it before, so i was thinking of incorporating it into my 3 funniest tales i've had in the bar industry? Are they simply looking at your ability to stand there and talk to a group, or do they mark on your skillset? I just don't want to give a 5 minute presentation on what would essentially be my CV - doesn't make for great talking does it?

Posted By: laurenAmy
Date Posted: 24 August 2011 at 16:28
I should be fine as I already know what a hotel assistant entails as thats what ive been doing for the past couple of montsh so hopefully I will be ok
ok well I will try and make it as interesting as possible but kinda hard to sort it all out when im not at home but I will do it İve got just over a week from when I get home to my interview so can sort myself out

Posted By: Shanks
Date Posted: 25 August 2011 at 20:43
Lee89; I don't know about the group stage tbh, they didn't actually go through it at my interview, so I can't be any help there! I think yeh, they'd look for a leader role, and team work. Yeh, tell some tales about bar work, and potentially what you learned from them?  I don't think they're too bothered about your ability to talk in front of a group... however, if you can't, it's obviously not a good sign. They won't care about the skillset - they have no idea what it's going to be, so it could be a completely irrelevant skill to start with. I think they just want to see what you come up with, and see effort you've put into it, and how much time you've spent on it. Definitely don't present your CV - they want something creative! All I can think of to help.

laurenAmy; That should be alright then! Errm, even if you're not at home, just have a think about what you could do, so, you'll have sorta idea what you wanna do, and maybe even begin to plan it - otherwise, a week may not be enough time!

I had an interview a couple of weeks ago and got offered a job the following day.
Don't worry too much about the presentation, it does seem a bit daunting because the task isn't very specific... which is because they want you to interpret it in your own way.  I would suggest taking something with you to talk about and focus on selling yourself and your skills to them.  If you cant think of anything immediately relevant to your job role (ie hotel assistant) then maybe try something humorous or something that makes you as a person stand out. You are sure to make a good impression if you dress suitably, go well prepared, get involved and smile/be friendly.

Congratulations!! where about are you wanting to go?!
yeah?! just trying to show i have the skills and qualities for the job role! really have no clue!
What is the structure of the day like and things they ask? did you do alot of research on the company?!

Check a previous post of mine - it's got some info about the sorta presentations that happens, and what i reckon is the best sorta way to do it; as well as the company info stuff... You need to have some knowledge, it helps! I didn't when I did it and looked a bit foolish.

Laura - How'd it go? Don't worry, I didn't hear back from mine for about 3-5 days... I'm impressed people have heard the day after!

Hey, I was incredibly nervous doing the "introduce yourself" bit, I needn't be but I just got a bit anxious so didn't manage to say everything I wanted to. :( Then it went round again and I had to do my task, I applied for chalet housekeeping but was unsure what to do so I did bottle flaring to demonstrate I like learning new skills, can learn fast and can follow a routine.. then I did towel origami and made a swan out of a bath towel, then I presented a cake I baked as my role also includes serving food so I thought may as well. I baked a chocolate cola cake (has half a can of coke in it!)

They seemed to like it an I was less nervous but still a bit twitchy. Then it was the group questions, luckily I prepared and got my voice heard (felt more relaxed then) then it was the written which I think went okay. Not heard back from them yet so it's a relief that you heard after a few days! I'd hate to of ruined the interview because of my nervous start.

Being nervous is natural! Everyone is, some people just hide it better than others!
Wow, that sounds like quite an impressive presentation! I'm sure you did well!
I'm sure you'll hear from them soon! Good luck for when you do :)

What did you apply for and where are you based?

Yehh! I know that feeling! It's horrible. Just try to push it out your mind!
I applied for a bar supervisor... I've got a position in Courchevel, at the hotel Les Anemones at1850... should be good!

I got a posistion with Esprit bar manager. So excited :) How did everyone else do?

Thanks to everyone for the radvice, especially Shanks. Here's my advice for anyone with interviews - dress smart, arrive early and chat to people waiting (it makes you less nervous in the group stages). Make sure you plan a quick talk about yourself, your reasoning behind why you wanted to apply etc. Don't overly worry about your presentation, just practise if you're going to talk. For example, I did a quick flair with a practise bottle and a little red bull pour trick i've picked up, someone else baked an AMAZING mountain cake. Just be yourself, that's really all I can say. Read up on the companies, they will ask you and make sure you speak up.

The interviewrs are lovely and make you feel comfotable, so honestly don't worry about feeling under pressure etc. Just be yourself, be natural and friendly. Everyone will be nervous, it's only natural :p

Lee- your presentation was awesome!!! Im so nicking that red bull thing.. and nobody ate my mountain cake!

For anybody who is nervous.... DONT BE! the interview was very fun and laid back. dress professionally, but just be yourself, GET THERE ON TIME!! and if you put the effort in to just bother to find ANYTHING for your task youll do great. someone brought a wooden elephant purely for the fact it had NOTHING to do with the job but to show her skills of being creative and having the gift of the gab and to be comfortable in any situation and she did great and im sure shes been hired. someone else juggled while wearing a bike helmet... im sure he was hired too. dont worry too much. I choked up and openly admitted i was nervous and my mind was blank but i laughed it off and had a good time and today me and my boyfriend have just been offered the jobs in meribel france!!!!!!!!!!! Im super excited!

Hopefully everyone else was successful aswell and I hope i see some of you during the season! if anyone else is going to be in meribel add me in on fb. it would be nice to know a few people before i get out there!

I've got an interview to be a Chalet Assistant on the 31st May.
I;ve got a small tattoo on my wrist, does anyone know if this will be a problem? I'm not keen on the idea of hiding it as that's kind of lying...
Thanks
