I got an offer, but not loving the need to reply so fast - I still have interviews I kinda wanna attend, to see what the other companies would be like... hmm
And I got offerd a job for Sunsail, who pay a damn lot less, but, well, yatchts. Rich men, in a beach club with free watersports all summer. Need to maked a decision!
In the olympic interview they sure made it look like it would be hard work 6/7 days a week. Aghh! I dont know what to do! Congrats to you hun x mwah x

well i sent off my contracts to them and didnt hear nothing back so i rang them and they took the money out over the phone and the starter pack was in my letterbox within 7-10 days sort of thing. the final contracts are in there and are a bit baffleing, apart from that it tells you aprox when you'll be going out and what to take whick sounds a bit weird coz i really aint thought that far ahead so i might pop off to tk maxx after get some new clobber. but getting well excited about it now seeing as my college course folded last night! speak to you soon

Alreet Charlie Brown
Those who have sl*gged of Olympic were probably sick of the amount of work you have to do. As i said before, you only get 1 day off a week and that is usually split into two half days.
My experiences of Olympic holidays is that there a great comany to work for, and so much does depend on who your gonna be repping with as the jobs can get you down and you need good mates to pick you back up.
In saying that though its the most rewarding and best job ive done and i looked upon my time in rhodes as not work, but as having fun. There's a great saying ...... 'find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life' - That definately applies to us holiday reps.
A normal working week for an Olympic rep is different depending on where you go. Resorts like Faliraki, KAvos and Malia will mean you work much longer hours than a smaller quieter resort. So say you worked Faliraki (which i did briefly last year) this is a normal week.....
COMPANY: Olympic Holidays
RESORT: Faliraki
JOB ROLE: HOLIDAY REP!
HOURS WORKED: 168 in a week...so i reckon 167!
Sunday:
09:00 - 16:00 = Welcome meetings
16:00 - 18:00 = Writing tickets, booking excursions
NIGHT OFF!!!
Monday:
DAY OFF!!!! unless they split it into two
19:00 - 02:00 - lead bar crawl
Tuesday:
09:00 - 13:00 = Hotel visits
13:00 - 17:00 = Beach time, wohoo
17:00 - 20:00 = Hotel Duties
20:00 - 22:00 = Airport Paperwork
22:00 - 01:00 - Lead comedy night then foam party
Wednesday
10:00 - 14:00 = Airport duties
14:00 - 17:00 = Beach, food, paperwork...all at the same time!
17:00 - 20:00 = hotel duties
Thursday:
09:00 - 16:00 = Welcome meetings
16:00 - 18:00 = Paperwork
19:00 - 02:00 - Bar crawl
Friday:
09:00 - 13:00 = Hotel visits
13:00 - 17:00 = Beach, pool or sleep
17:00 - 20:00 = hotel visits
Saturday: (i hate saturdays)
10:00 - 16:00 = Airport duties
16:00 - 18:00 = Paperwork
18:00 - 23:00 = sleep, eat and extra paperwork
23:00 - 07:00 = Airport
If you work in a smaller resort, you dont need to guide as many excursions.
As for high season reps....they usually come into the busy resorts...like the falirakis and do the bar crawls etc etc. I was high season last year and i went to faliraki, though i ended up moving as another rep resigned and i had to cover her. The high season reps are the first to go home unless you've made a big impression and ask them to stay...im sure you'll be fine!!
Can you remember any of your faliraki reps last year??
hope this helps

hey stevieM
thanks so much! has help alot! yeah they did say on the assessment day that u will only get one day off! suppose i can live with that!
yeah i really wna work in the young and lively resorts...wna lead the bar crawls and booze cruizes etc...so prepared for more work!
wot do yu mean about high season reps being the first to go? wot actually being sent home or just cant hack the job? i dont wna be sent home!!! lol
i didnt go on hol with olympic last yr but with escapades (nat and scotish steve) but i use to c olympic reps out on the bar crawls all the time and use to have a chat with them...cudnt say ne names cuz obviously i was wasted! i will never forget sum old guy leading the bar crawl (no offence to old ppl) and asked him how he had the energy to do it!!lol
thanks

Well high season reps are usually just for the high season...june-september, whereas season reps are there all season april-october. However that certainly doesnt mean you will definately sent home. Quite a few reps cant hack it and pack the job in before the end. I was high season but i stayed to the final days.
i recognize your escapade reps names but i cant rmember who they were....as for the old rep, there's usually a mixture of ages. I was 21 last year for my first season and i was one of the youngest - the oldest being abput 38.

oh rite i get ya now!
i can only do june to sept cuz im at uni! so cudnt stay on neway. to be honest i fink june to sept with be long enough for me, espcially for my first season and being at uni so quite happy with that!
the escapades reps were absolutley wicked, i stayed at the stamos hotel...stevie stamos so funny...owned that bar KBG or summit like that!
oh rite, well thats cool, i do like a mixture of ages! well im 20 so will be one of the younger ones!
so wen u go out on training wots that like? is it intense? do they ask you where u wana go or do they tell u?
soz with all the questions and thanks!

to be honest with you, i have no idea what your training is gonna be like. I went out by myself and my training lasted four days of one on one training and shadowing. Once i finished that they threw me into the deep end with 3 hotels to look after!
I'd imagine your training will last a week and there will be a group of you sent to somewhere like athens, faliraki or malia....where you will do all the training you need.
During training you should be given a tour of the island you get, go on all the excusrions so that you know how to sell them, practice your welcome meeting and airport spiel,
and learn about all the paperwork and how to deal with complaints.
Although my training was basic, im expecting it to be alot more thorough this time round.
Where's the rest of the olympic wanabee's? its not just me and you is it?? DREAM TEAM! LOL

hey atchoo....if you leave before they send you home you loose your deposit (bond) and all your held commission. Which is given to reps before they go home. Held comission is 2% and last year i got something like 600 euro in held comission. The reps in the busy resorts made over a grand in held comission. Also if you leave early you have to pay your own flights home and the company can charge you for costs endured (this is only if you leave early in the season, like after a month) if this is the case they can charge you the amount your flights out cost plus accomodation costs. Dont worry though Atchoo, you'll have such a great time you wont even contemplate leaving!

hey hunny
basically the 100 is just a bond....as far as im aware its just to secure ur place...cuz obviously ppl drop out and that way if u did then u wont get the money back
i had to pay 150 and will get it back at the end of the season.

My concern is that I'm going to miss home! I'm only 18! I didn't really expect to get the job. But I DO want the job!
What about the rest of the commission, do you get it each week/month?
Where do you do your washing? haha...silly question probably, but it's things like this that worry me!
Someone also told me that reps have to always wear their hair up. This doesn't sound good, mine is fairly short and bugger to get up!

You will miss your frineds and family no doubt, but you will gain new friends who become like family.....i really wouldnt worry about it. and im sure your family will want a cheap holiday to visit you and being the rep you can get them the best rooms in the hotel!!!
As for your washing, plenty of options...the hotels can do it if you ask them or you can just phone someone in to come and pick your washing up. Or if ya skint, you always have a sink to wash ya clothes in!!
As for your hair, im a bloke and i cant remember!! as long as you dont look scruffy you'll be fine!!

all the girls with long hair had it tied back...i worked with a lass with short hair and she didnt tie hers back. Mind you we didnt really have any supervisor in resort so we could bend the rules somewhat. For example, your not aloud to eat in front of guests, but the amount of time i was tucking into a beef burger at the hotel bar when a guest walked up to me was unreal. Most of your hotels offer your free food so it would be wrong not to!!!!

Nice! I guess people see the reps eating and think it's a nice place to eat. Hahaha, they must think we're superheros!
I'm a vegetarian so it's going to be a pain in the ass finding food in some countries, hopefully I won't get Turkey because when I visited with college I had to live on pizza and ''cheese toasts'' as there was nothing else!

hmm, the greek do like there meats so vegi's do have a much smaller menu to choose from. But most resorts have italian resaurants which have lots of pasta and salad options.
As for the guests thinking were superhero's....75% love you....the other 25% hate you because your the rep of the sh*tty hotel! Some of the guests get so abussive and even violent! i was picked up by this massive irish woman and thrown out of her room once becuase she didnt like the food and when i tested the food and sent of my reprt i found no problem! bear in mind im 22 and 12 1/2 stone myself!!

You cant decide by yourself which resort you end up in, thats all decided by the management. However you can request where you wana go and i'd imagine they'd would try and help you out. When your in training just stress that you realise working in the lively resorts is not like being on holiday and that you understand that. A lot of people think going on holiday to a resort is the same and working that resort....its not, trust me!
Also, if you dont get the resort you want dont panic, reps leave and get moved around and the lively resorts like kavos need more reps in high season (when all the fun happens!). for example in faliraki, olympic had 4 reps there in high season last year, wheras in low season there was just 1! in low season faliraki was dead. So just because kavos is lively in july aug and september, it will be different in other months.
hope you get what you want

hiya i went to corfu ull luv it. we went to falarki to do trainning if ur goin begin of april ull prob be doin it there u stay in a dead nice hotel, n theres a bar open called underground with an american fella mikey ownin it hes brill. u do alot of intense work its really annoin i hated trainnin, but sum parts are fun. u learn how to do and present welcome meetings and practise ur coach transfer speach on the microphone really weird at first. ull be tested on the back of the olympic brochure so get readin it to give u a head start. ul be there for 9 days them if ur goin to corfu ull do a 2 wk trainnin out there ours was in ipsos last year. ull meet ur island manager which is joe shes lovely and ur head rep. to get kavos coz its young and lively just be dead confident and very outgoin but dont make out to them ur there for a party. i was is in sidari i loved it its not as mad as kavos but its busy and all the bars r open till end of season. theres quite a few reps from last yr goin bk 2 corfu there all brill

hi emma louise.
I repped last summer but due to me going really late (end of june) i was rushed through very basic training. Not that im complaining, i hate training. You mentioned a few posts ago that you get tested on the stuff in the brochures. What kind of stuff do you mean?

it was stuff like when theres plane delays what ugot after so many hours. n age restrictions on child prices n hire of cots between hotels n apartments. other stuff like olympics rules for evictin people and if they break the terms and conditions, all the small print in the back of the olympic brochure u haveto learn n getted tested on it. n u av to get so may right before carryin on with trainin u get 2 or 3 attempts i think or they just said that to make us learn it. were u in falaraki

well i might skim over it before i leave then, all sounds pretty simple though!
I did my training in faliraki and thats where i was supposed to rep but at the last second a rep resigned in the south so i had to rep the rest of the season down in pefkos.
Out of the reps who started the season, quite a few left - which was good for me as i wouldnt have had a job!

I've just sent off my application form to the Olympic, hoping for an interview. Only managed to read the 1st page of this thread- and it's sooo much info! Good to know though. What's the 150 pounds for, which you guys had to send off? And see the duties someone described as a typical week of duties as a holiday rep for OLympics- how come they included leading comedy nights and shows?? I thought that's what the club reps and entertainers are for!
And could someone who's done it before please recommend me some of the best locations to rep in, if I was ever asked? Or the ones NOT so good.....I thought I wanted to go to a lively place with lots of young people, but then again I don't want to work 24/7, so perhaps a lively but small resort would suit me more, especially cos it's my 1st year repping.... I was interested in going either to Greece, Cyprus or Bulgaria out of all the destinations Olympic travel to.Thanks!!

hey hunny,
good luck and i hope u get an interview. yeah there is lots of info but dont get intimidated, being a rep is quality!!!
i worked n zante lst season and it was awesome, i had the best time ever, the training wasnt easy but as soon as u start it will al fit into place and u will start to relax nd enjoy urself. My advce is if u do get an interview just be urself, be confident and dont be too shy!!! they will see straight throu u and they are always wtching and looking to bear that in mind.
You have to pay £150 deposit to secure ur place..you get it back at the end of the season, its just so you dont drop out..
depending on where they send you and whether you in a lively resort or not you will have to do trips. Olympic holidays dont have entertainers r anything like that, the reps do them...transfer reps do the majority but as a rep you will do some!! last year i was placed in Langanas so i went on the booze cruise, kol disco, beach party etc.... but as i sed it depends what sort of island nd resort you go to.
i cant really tell you which island is the best and which isnt since ive onlybeen rep for one season, obviously Zante was gud, small island so gud for a firs year rep... However imff to Corfu this year, hopefully kavos so that shud be a different expeience. Ive been to Rhodes, Faliraki which was nice andi wouldnt mind working thee myself.
Ive heard malia can be pretty hectic, depending on what sort of person you are and if you want a busy or quite atmosphere!
i wish u luck with everything.
if you have more questions let me no i wll b happy o help xx

Cool tips, thanks very much!!It's interesting, so far every1 on here has been placed on Greek islands, doesn't anyone ever go to their other destinations? Not that I mind, of course..Do you get to choose which trips/shows you take part in? I mean, I wouldn't be able to do stand-up comedy or dance around naked on my own, and I'm not a big drinker so wouldn't be much fun to go on a booze cruise...Oh, when you rep, do you always do everything on your own throughout the day and night or do you actually work in pairs or as team?

hey
there is more places in greece than cyprus but wen i was raining last yr, few of my mates went to cyprus... u will either get greece or cyprus...
which ever island u get sen to nd depending on the resrt u will have to go on the trips, u dont get a choice as too whether u wana do it or not, just part of the job.. im quite out going and love all the lively scene so i got sent o a busy resort and loved doing all the excursions. Who ever trains you will send you to a resort which suits ur personalit best so dont worry too much, u wont get to rep in a lively resort is your a quiet person.
with olympic u rep on your own, so u do all ou welcome meets, transfers on your own... wen it cums to trips there will usually be a couple of other reps along with yourself...
hope this helps xxx

no not at all! u will meet loads of ppl... u will have the olympic team aswell as all the other reps from other companies! u will live with reps and u will meet loads of other workers out there aswell as ur guests!!!
ur be at the airport with other reps and on excursions, a couple of my hotels were shared with other companies to your have other reps at ur hotel... Repping is not a loney job at all... u will meet millions of ppl!!!
Trust me, its hard but an amazing experience! xx

Hi. I have an interview in London on 21 November. Any tips? Went to Tui interview on Saturday. Got through to afternoon session but did not get the job. Think i messed up on my role play. Do Olympic do the same sort of interview?
|
Posted By: charlie6002
Date Posted: 11 November 2008 at 12:56
Hi there,
Yeah all the companys hold the same sort of interview. I worked for Olympic holidays last summer, spent it in zante1 awesome!!!
as for the interview when i went it was really relaxed and everyone was really friendly. you have to introduce yourself then they ask the group questions about the comapny so make sure u do a little backgroud research nothing major though! then you do group work and have to present a short presentation - they are watching how you act with others so make sure you dont speak 24/7 and dont but in and let others speak and show that you can listen as well.
Next i had to do an individual presentatio. i did mine on a cruise excursion..make sure you include the times, price, date, desricption and the think about the main seeling points. make sure you sound happy and even use a drawing or something.
AFter lunch we had to go in the room one by one and talk about something that meant alot fo us for 2 minutes, i spoke about going to uni. just think of something that you wont run out of things to say, they had to shut me up. next is the role play. when i did mine i was sh*t scared...its quite daunting when you have someone shouting at you but meant sure you keep apologising on behalf of olympic holiday, make sure you are level with the customer so if they are standing up stand up or ask them to sit... find out what the problem is and just explain what you can do for them and how you could help then.
Finally i had my one to one...really infomral just a nice little chat. just ask the usual questions like why did you pick olyomic, what experience do you have and then a few questions about different situations you could be in.
GOOD LUCK if you get it your have an quality time, best experience of my life, wish i could do it again but have other commitments! :(
have fun and remember just to enjoy yourself. the interview is a long day so make the most of it.

My interview is on 21 November, so will let you know how i get on. I am so desperate to work overseas. I was so disappointed that i didn't get the TUI job and hope that i have more luck with Olympic. I must admit i love Greece and Cyprus, so would really love to go anywhere. Thanks again.

Just enjoy it coz theyre actually quite a laugh. Remember everyones in the same boat so try to be chatty because it will help to relax you by being comfortable with the people around you. One thing i would advise is don't think just because its not for an office job you dont have to dress smart.
