First you'll need to get a working holiday visa which are easy to get - http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/ - http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/

For accommodation there is a whole industry based on backpackers and hostel's which are extremely cheap and fun places to stay while your there. Your best bet is to head anywhere on the East coast, e.g Brisbane, Sydney, Gold coast, etc. as it's a lot more developed for backpacking than the West, although I recommend you come to WA if your feeling adventurous....

Work wise, bar jobs and hospitality are very easy to get here, make sure you get a 'RSA' certificate on-line before you arrive here as you won't be employed unless you have one, the Aussie's like you to be certified in everything! LOLAlso around summertime (Dec-Feb) there are tons of fruit picking jobs, etc. to anywhere in oz.

Flights wise I find Emirates and Malaysia airlines awesome to fly with and you'll usually get a flight for around 600 pound one way but now http://www.airasia.com - http://www.airasia.com is about and you can pick up flights at easyjet-like prices, just depends if you can handle being uncomfortable for 20+ hours. You have to book to Kuala Lumpur and then onwards but you won't find a cheaper way of flying around Asia/OzClap...........
