Assistant Chef

The beautiful 18th century Château du Baffy, on the edge of the small village of Colombiers, offers guests the chance to stay in the beautiful Normandy countryside and enjoy the superb beaches and historical landmarks nearby.

The château is a popular destination for UK school groups during the academic year (primarily March to November), keen to explore the region with a wide range of daily excursions. During the summer holidays (late July/August), the Château is enjoyed by adult and family guests, and due to the proximity to the WW2 landing beaches, we also host a number of military guests.

The Château du Baffy is owned and operated by Select School Travel, which is one of the UK’s leading school travel operators with properties in France and Italy.

The property sleeps up to 180 guests in the main Chateau building as well as the Villa Mathilde and our new Woodland pods which launched in 2025.  There are also facilities which include a games area, fire-pit, cinema room plus an indoor activity and function room. Staff are also provided with access to bikes and as appropriate, use of the company vehicle to further explore the area.

We would like to recruit an Assistant Chef, working alongside our established French Head Chef to provide healthy and varied evening meals to the school groups and adult guests.

We aim to provide a varied and flexible working environment to ensure that you are able to enjoy and explore all that the location and the region has to offer, including regular team day trips and social events plus local fitness centre/swimming facilities.

The neighbouring farmhouse/gîte provides the main staff accommodation, equipped with new farmhouse kitchen, lounge and dining area complete with log-burner, as well as separate mezzanine TV lounge and wifi – offering the team the chance to relax and socialize together.

As such, we are looking for energetic, motivated and ambitious candidates who can demonstrate:

• Catering/kitchen experience
• Willingness to learn
• Hardworking/team player approach
• Enthusiasm for working with school groups
• French language preferential

A valid driving license would be beneficial.
