Chalet Catering/housekeeping/hosting Couple

We are looking for a couple (or two friends that can work well together) to run our stylish 12-bed chalet in Chamonix. 

Our clients are on a one-week trekking holiday, and a guide will take them onto the mountains each day. Your role will be to look after the chalet. This means preparing a buffet breakfast every day, a buffet lunch for five days from which the clients can prepare their own picnics, afternoon tea/cake each day, and 6 x 3-course dinners. Saturday is a changeover day. Between you, you need to provide catering, cleaning, some driving, as well as delivering some briefings and being social and nice to the clients. 

Although the theme of the holiday is to go trekking in the mountains, certainly coming home to a comfortable chalet is an important element. We very much encourage you to take responsibility and ownership of the chalet and its ambience. It will very much feel like it’s your chalet and the clients will enjoy the fact that you are running it for them.

Main responsibilities

Between you, you need to be organised and experienced caterers. We recommend you cook the same menu each week and there’s guidance for you, as well as a budget, to what that will be. But in short, it will be healthy, Mediterranean/European/French-themed menus.

You need to shop for that menu and keep records.

Kitchen and living areas need to be cleaned daily, rooms are cleaned on the Saturday changeover day.

You need to be safe and competent drivers. We have minibuses and you will deliver the clients to the start of their walks on some days. Other days, the clients will take public transport.

On arrival day you need to give the clients an introduction briefing. Over and above this, you are very much expected to be warm and kind hosts who are friendly and chatty to the clients when you see them.

Key skills and requirements

You need to have a good level of English, and either an EU passport or permission to work in the EU.

You need to be safe and competent drivers.

You need to be available for the full length of the contract, mid-May to mid-October.

You need to have experience of catering for medium-size groups. The catering is such a key part of this role, and something the clients really appreciate, so for you to enjoy this job, cooking must be something you get pleasure from.

Good quality accommodation and food included, therefore your expenses are very low.

Autonomy and responsibility – we will either see this as a benefit, or you won’t. If you don’t, this is not the job for you. 

French contract – the wage you will hopefully, mostly, save.

Free time – although this is a live in job, and it consumes a lot of time, there is also a lot of free time during the day and on your day off to go and enjoy the mountains and Chamonix. This is a job best suited to an outdoors person who will enjoy a season in the Alps. 

We provide a lot of induction and training in the set-up week before the first clients arrive.
