Life at a New York Summer Camp

I remember the day I applied to work at camp like it was yesterday. Whilst I was enjoying university life I knew I wanted to have a different experience over the summer. My flatmate had been to camp with Wild Packs Summer Camps and raved about them, so I thought I'd give them a shot.
And I'm so glad I did! Honestly working at camp changed my life! The camp I was placed at was in New York. I'd never been to American before, or been on a flight by myself, and honestly, my stomach was in knots as I made that flight. Thankfully, everything went smoothly. My camp director even came to meet me at the airport, it was so nice to be welcomed so warmly.
Apart from the view from the camp van I didn't see much of New York that day, but it didn't stay like that for long. On my first day off some newly made camp friends and I went into the city for the day, as our camp was just an hour away. I fell in love with New York straight away, and now have pictures all over my wall of the city! I felt so lucky to be working so close to such an amazing place. A lot of the kids at camp were from the New York area too, and had loads of tips, places to visit, things to do and sights to see!
My summer at camp was amazing. I loved having the opportunity to work alongside such amazing kids and counsellors from all over the world. I worked in the arts and crafts department, and specialised in ceramics. I loved helping the kids create pieces of work that they would then take home to show their parents. The spirit on camp is magical, a place of energy, friendship and fun. I think about camp every single day, I made some amazing memories there.
After camp was over some friends and I travelled for nearly 3 weeks. In that time we went to Disney in Florida, Boston but spent most of our time in New York. We slept at another counsellors house, who lived just outside the city, a short train journey away. Seeing the Lion King on broadway was a highlight, as well going up the Empire State Building- the view was amazing.
I've already signed my contract for camp 2014, and I cannot wait to go back. I'd recommend camp to anyone who is looking for a new adventure in life.
