Nothing funner than a Canadian Summer

We know 'funner' isn't a word but... Think Canada is at it’s best as a winter wonderland? Think again. Canadians are blessed with four incredibly distinct seasons and summer is the time to enjoy the ruggedly beautiful landscapes at their best. Head on our Work Canada programme for summer and get yourself living the Canadian summer dream as Canadians do. With boats, campfires and festivals galore, Canadian winters may be made for skiing but Canadian summers are meant for living.

1. HIKING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING

Those slopes that are so epic to ski down for 5 months of the year? They’re the same slopes that are covered with life come spring and summer, serving up unreal views every direction you look. Ditch your gym membership, grab your bike or trainers and breathe in that crisp, clean air as you go (literally) conquering mountains. You’ll feel amazing, and have the most unbelievable photos to show for it!

2. FESTIVALS

The Canadian summer festival scene has absolutely exploded over the past few years with massive multi-day events letting music lovers bask in the sun while enjoying world-class entertainment. Many of the festivals have line-ups to rival the likes of Coachella or even Brazil’s epic Carnival and the food is seriously unparalleled. Hit up festivals like Pemberton, Sasquatch, WayHome, Osheaga and Digital Dreams. Or trade your usual UK festival wellies for cowboy boots and get your rodeo on at the world-famous Calgary Stampede before driving over to the glorious Rocky Mountains. Which brings us to …

3. …ROAD TRIPS!

The 2nd largest landmass in the world, Canada is made for long playlists and long drives. The country changes dramatically from coast to coast and offers so much for a road tripping delight. The Icefield Parkway is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful drives in the world, taking you directly through the middle of the Rocky Mountains for a true larger than life ride. Keep your eyes out for moose, elk and bears and don't forget to pick your jaw up off the ground because believe me, you’ll be in awe the entire time as mountains envelop you and wildlife surrounds you.

4. TAKE PART IN CANADA DAY FESTIVITIES

Barbeques, beaches, fireworks and flag wearing fun all around: Canada Day is the official kick-off to summer and Canadians take it very (very) seriously. Get your maple leaf temporary tattoos ready, red and white clothing on and blast all the Bryan Adams, Drake, Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain you can handle because July 1st is Canada Day and celebrating is the only thing to do. This year the nation is having its 150th birthday meaning the festivities this year will be bigger, better and more spectacular than ever before. If there was ever a time (other than always!) to head over to Canada for the summer, this is definitely it.

5. WATER SPORTS GALORE

Skiing, hockey and snowboarding might trump during the winter but give a Canadian a body of water in the warmer months and watch as canoeing, kayaking, sailing, wakeboarding, paddle boarding and even surfing become a daily part of life. Summer in Canada is all about days out on the water and nights back at the campsite so don't be surprised as city dwellers around the country throw the canoe on top of the car, load up the boot and escape to chill out in the land of nature’s finest playgrounds.

If you want to head to Canada there's no point waiting around until winter! Score yourself a job with our Work Canada Ultimate programme and get ready for epic times ahead. Interviews for summer positions will start in March to begin work in May so get in touch with us today by calling 0333 999 7516 or visiting our website https://www.bunac.org/uk/work-abroad/working-holiday-packages/work-canada
