Les Gets
Les Gets is situated 1 hour and 5 minutes from Geneva, at an altitude of 1172m - 2460m. Les Gets is one of the 15 linked resorts of the vast Portes Du Soleil ski area, although it is an extensive ski area in its own right and a truly picture perfect Alpine resort.
Les Gets has a friendly village feel to it and with most of the chalet companies being small independents there is a good mix of seasonaires. The social hub for all is the British run Bar Bush hosted by a Scot called “Figs” the season officially starts with the Bar Bush opening night and throughout the season they show all the big footie and rugby games The Irish Bar, The Black Bear, Zebra Bar and Le Boomerang (great spot for live bands) are all popular watering holes, but if Guinness is your tipple be warned its not cheap at 8 euros a pint!
For those non skiers take a trip up Mont Chery cable car and enjoy the terrific view of Mont Blanc from the restaurant terrace or wander round the many shops in town. A free "toy town" train circuits the village regularly although the town itself is all easily accessible on foot. There is an outdoor market weekly and of course for the more adventurous other activities include snow-shoeing, ice-skating, sledging and paragliding.
Les Gets is a great family ski resort and is very popular with beginners and intermediates. There is an abundance of wide, gentle tree lined pistes right down to village level and a large beginner area at Les Chavannes which can be accessed by gondola, chairlift to bus.
For intermediates to the more advanced skier or snow boarder the Mont Chery ski area (the opposite side to the main ski area connected by a free train that regularly circuits the town) has some of the best red and black runs of the whole area, affords fantastic views of Mont Blanc and is incredibly quiet!
