wonderful campsite
There was a campsite that would have been a little closer to the centre of Henley, however looking at the Embers website made me sure this would be worth the extra walk – I was right, it was! We arrived late in the day, having kayaked down the river from Reading then walked from the town centre – my children and I were shattered and needed a decent shower and a good night’s sleep. Alex had texted earlier in the afternoon to ascertain our arrival time, and even though it was going to be later than her working hours, she waited and greeted us with a smile and made sure we were settled in a pitch of our choosing, with a log fire at the ready, she even gave us some of her own marshmallows to toast – a small gift, but really made our evening! The site itself is beautiful – set in large grounds, surrounded by trees and sheep, with the river at the bottom of the field. Pitches are far apart with plenty of space in the middle for games. I thoroughly enjoyed the camp showers (hot, powerful and no silly button to keep on pressing), they are housed in wooden shacks so give you a sense of being semi outdoors. The loos and showers are all kept beautifully clean. We peeked into one of the bell tents – these are lovely as they are all brand new. The walk into Henley is beautiful, you travel along the river and through fields, it only takes 25 mins. This is a wonderful campsite, one of the nicest we’ve been to (and we camp a lot), we look forward to returning next year.
