Summer Jobs in Liverpool

Liverpool is a pulsing centre of business and pleasure so there are lots of short term and temp jobs about the place. The city was awarded the title in recognition of decades of cultural development: a habit that began in the 1960s, when the Beatles were among a crowd of talent including poets and artists, and continues today.

The city’s economy, formerly heavily dependent on industry and devastated by unemployment and revolution in the 1980s, has bounced back. There has been a massive influx in service-based businesses: the National Health Service, Revenue and Customs and the Passport Service – as well as masses of private sector companies – have moved their headquarters to Liverpool. This means there are now many more administration and office-based jobs on offer, which is good news for anyone looking for temporary work.

Temporary Jobs in Leisure and Hospitality

You’ll also find that the city’s thriving leisure industry creates jobs, particularly in the summer months. Look out for bar, catering, waiting and childcare positions. The David Lloyd health club in Knowlsley, Liverpool University, and Liverpool City Council ALL run independent summer playschemes for children – contact them directly. Check the Liverpool 08 website to find out what events are being planned and contact them or the council directly to see whether they have steward, hospitality or promotions jobs.

Clinical Trials work

While volunteering for medical trials isn’t a ‘job’ as such, and it’s something that requires careful investigation, it can pay very well. Liverpool School of Psychology, for instance, regularly advertises for volunteers; further afield, if you’re able to travel you could look at Zeneca (Nottingham and Cheshire clinics), or the Wythenshaw Hospital (south of Manchester). You could be trialling a new vitamin supplement, testing out an alternative asthma inhaler, or participating in a sleep study – and pocketing a couple of thousand pounds in the process.

Temp Office Jobs in Liverpool

The wide range of businesses with headquarters in Liverpool means there are plenty of office-based jobs, as well as sales, telemarketing and promotional opportunities. Just like most student cities in the UK, there are almost always fund-raising, market research and data entry jobs available – these positions typically have a high turnover, and some of them are advertised specially for summer holidays.

Liverpool Temp Jobs – action list:

  • Register with the agencies: this is best done in person, taking printed copies of your CV (resume) – be prepared to take a typing test!
  • Events and bar staff: As of this summer, Liverpool will be expecting hundreds of thousands of additional tourists, and you can make this pay! Start looking early, visiting in-person if you can.
  • Pick up the jobs pages: the Liverpool Echo publishes job supplements on Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • Don’t forget to call the Council and University direct to find out about clinical trials and playscheme opportunities.
