Rhodes Island, Greece
Rhodes (ro-dos in Greek) is the jewel in the Dodecanese crown. It’s the biggest and boldest of all these group of Islands and receives by far the lion’s share of visitors, for many a reason.
Its enchantments includes the intriguing and almost magical World Heritage–listed Old Town of Rhodes with its labyrinthine back streets and medieval fortifications set within a inhabited walled City.
The sleepy sandy and pebble beaches with sparkling azzure coloured waters found the length and breadth of the east coast add to the charm of this stand alone island. Heading inland there are snaking mountain roads with wild and rocky terrain and opportunities for off road exploring.
You will be instantly hooked by the sunshining days and long lasting nights spent eating and drinking or partying (whatever your preference) whilst surrounded by locals who will be taking a much more relaxed approach deliberating over the ways of the World.
It would be fair to say that each day you will be captivated by Rhodes just a little bit more, untill, in the true Rhodian style of doing things, 'segar segar' (slowly slowly) you will come under the spell of falling for this Island.
Rhodes is open year-round enoying boundless hours of warmth and sunshine from April till Novemeber. The Winter months offer an exceptionally nice climate for the most part.
