placement Details

Join our dedicated community of volunteers on a vital mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and release wildlife back into their natural habitats.

Since the early 2000s, our team of animal welfare experts has been tirelessly committed to educating both locals and volunteers about the importance of mitigating wildlife/human conflicts, a pressing issue worldwide. Through these efforts, we aim to foster peaceful coexistence between humans and primates, with local communities embracing the responsibility of safeguarding their wildlife for future generations.

Our specialized facilities include:

  • 4 semi-wild enclosures
  • An environmental education center
  • Outdoor classroom
  • Quarantine facilities and an orphan quarantine nursery
  • Bonding enclosures
  • Veterinary clinic

Many volunteers opt to enhance their experience by visiting the renowned Kruger National Park, and we offer seamless one-day/two-night Kruger Safaris with all transfers, meals, and luxury accommodations included.

Your tasks at the centre will be demand-driven and may vary throughout the year, depending on ongoing releases and other factors. Examples of tasks you may assist with include:

  • Daily food preparation shifts in the milk kitchen
  • "Troop cleans" involving enclosure maintenance and enrichment activities
  • Feeding various animals at the centre, such as rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, snakes, and lizards
  • Crafting enrichments and observing baboons enjoy them
  • Providing grooming and care to older baboons unable to be released
  • Assisting with nursery orphans in quarantine
  • Facilitating bonding between infant baboons and adult surrogates in purpose-built enclosures
  • Participating in monitoring exercises to learn more about baboon behaviour and troop dynamics
  • Enjoying game drives, river trips, and other wildlife experiences at the Big 5 reserve
  • Helping with current and future release preparations
  • Observing and assisting in the veterinary clinic

Your contributions are essential for the smooth operation of the centre and the welfare of distressed baboons. While volunteering involves interaction with primates, it's important to note that not all tasks entail direct handling of baboons. Join us in making a difference in the lives of these remarkable creatures and their fragile ecosystems.
