Ski Chalet Cookery Courses

The benefits of taking a course prior to your season are obvious. You will be more confident in cooking for large groups (you might end up cooking for 15 or 20 people), and will be better equipped to attain the level of quality expected by your employer.

If you attend a course specifically for training chalet staff you will get to know about the potential mishaps involved with the difference in cooking time for eggs for example (even when they are in a cake). Cooking for large numbers, often in a small kitchen, takes some getting used to and a course can just take the edge off the nerves when presented with it for the first time. Having completed a course prior to application will certainly strengthen your chances. The organisations listed below provide cooking and catering courses for all eventualities.

Snow Cooks

Established after 25 years of chalet staff training, Snow Cooks is a comprehensive training course designed to lead you confidently to applying and pursuing a chalet cook's position for the season as well as giving you skills for life. The aim is for you to achieve delicious meals which will leave your guests saying 'Best Chalet Food Ever'! We want you to get the best out of your season, off and on the slopes, so the curriculum covers all aspects of hosting a chalet with efficiency and ease.

You will leave the course with not only a complete understanding of cooking and hosting in an Alpine chalet, but a full-proof recipe book, guide, selection of menus and a reference from us.

Courses are one week long during June, July, August and September and are held in a real chalet location in a beautiful Alpine village resort where you can also enjoy the summer activities on offer in your spare time. Two week courses are possible on request.

I, myself am your main tutor and have not only been a chef, but been in charge of training, creating menus and chalet staff recruitment, so can also assist in preparing your CVs knowing exactly what future employers are looking for. We also have contact with chalet companies, so can advise which ones would best suit your application. Guest tutors and ex-chalet staff will be dropping by to impart their expertise and advice during the week.

Working a ski season has become very popular and competition is fierce. A chalet cookery course automatically indicates to potential employers that you are a serious contender!
